Model: Deco BE25
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.2 Build 20240618 Rel. 64386

Hi, good evening.

I've just moved to a FTTH 10Gb connection from FTTC 100mb so I took a leap and upgraded to the BE25 (3-pack) - which of course only supports 2.5gbps but my devices are all Wifi 6 so that's more than enough (and the BE85 was MUCH more expensive).

I also have a 3-pack of Deco M5 and a 3-pack of Deco-M4. The house is 300mq but I found that the BE25 on it's own hates walls. My wireless devices only get over 1gbps connection when they are in line of sight. Any wall in the way (and they are only brick, not concrete) and 70% minimum loss of speed. This meing the case I intend to have the 3 BE25s connected via a 2.5Gbps Switch, and the M4/M5s dotted around the house to achieve the slogan "paint your house in Wifi" (actually, unless I have 9 devices the paint is VERY patchy!!!).

To start with I factory reset everything and start with the master. All devices are laid out on a desk next to eachother with the Switch and ONT on the same desk. This way I can create a good baseline (without obstructions), label everything and then decide where to put the devices. The house is detached. No ther Wireless networks in range so conditions to create a good coverage seem good. But truth is, I find the performance of these devices - even in optimal conditions to be quite poor.

Everything is running latest firmware. I have my Wireless AC201 card connected the the base unit with status of 2.4gbps connection.

When I test my internet speed using the app I see 2.4gbps down and 2.4gbps up (more or less). Yes when I go to Oookla speedtest, the best I can achieve on the MLO network is 1.1gbps with the laptop next to the BE25 master which is cabled to the ONT with a Cat 7 0.5m cable. The network card (which supports 160ghz) can work up to 2.4gbps, so who that's one issue.

The second issue I have, when I added the two other BE25 to the new network using the app (assume I have to as the Web interface on 192.168.68.1) seems to be a very limited read-only informational service) - the two new BE25s show up on the network and app reports that everything looks good with strong network connections (they are 20cm apart) - but when I connect the Ethernet to the switch at 2.5Gbps, there's no evidence or indication that the connection has swicthed to wired. I;m sure when I had just the M5/M4 network in the past I could see the wired status.

Does the BE25 not show this backhaul connection as wired - making it hard to know if it;s working or just using the 2.4ghz backhaul.

Thanks for any suggestions on either of the above.

Best, Kevin

  @KevinShepherd

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

For now, the latest firmware for Deco BE25_V1  is 1.0.17. It is suggested to install the latest firmware first:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/760106

As for the Ethernet Backhaul, is your network topology like:

ISP ONT ---master Deco BE25---Network switch----satellite BE25#1

                                                                              \---satellite BE25#2

Can I have the model number of the network switch?

If we temporarily bypass the switch and connect the satellite BE25#1 directly via an Ethernet cable to the main BE25, will you see Ethernet Backhaul on the Deco APP?

For the network speed mentioned here:

"The best I can achieve on the MLO network is 1.1 Gbps with the laptop next to the BE25 master, which is cabled to the ONT with a Cat 7 0.5m cable. The network card (which supports 160GHz) can work up to 2.4Gbps."

Can I have the model number of the laptop?

If the laptop doesn't support MLO network, it can only use the 5 GHz WiFi band, and the maximum link speed would be 2882 Mbps. In this way, the final internet speed/1.1 Gbps is within expectations.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
