Model: TL-PA7010P KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

It seems the tp link 'tpPLC' app talks to the adapters via mac addresses, from my wireshark investigation. No sign of IP at all, which is odd, but not imposible.

Note: wireshare even regcognises the powerline mac 'protocol' which these devices use, amazing.

Does anyone know away of checking for the device to be alive, aka ping <IP>, but it does not have an IP!

is there a mac address method of checking the device is alive. I believe I could write one, but I wonder if someone else has already solved it.

John

PS: yep tried 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x and dhcp etc..

Hi@Ousidewall,

Thank you for contacting our community.

If you want to know the IP address of powerline adapter, you can go to the DHCP server or client list of the router. You will see the adapters' IPs under that.

@Joseph-TP Thank you for your response. I'm a seasoned IT fellow, 40 years expirence. As you will have read I had already considered DHCP etc, and fully investigated the lack of IP being given out.

I have since concluded that these devices do not use IPs! amazing, all mac address accessed. I have also found a number of python libraries that go into great detail of how it works. I will now be able to create a nagios plugin that will be able to not only check the adapter is up a running but also its powerline performance.
