Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20250317 rel.18331(4555)

My BE550 main unit had a massive fail this morning. The entire thing went down meaning I couldn't log in, I couldn't access it via Wifi or ethernet. In the end I had to do a factory reset and then reload the most recent backup config file. Everything is back up and running again in terms of WAN/LAN access, however...

I can't now login to the router at all even though I know 100% the password is correct. The password has been in place since initial set up in January, was the one in use at the last config backup and I had even logged into the router this morning. I can't login via the web or the Tether app. I have tried the default password too as if the router was factory fresh, which doesn't work either.

I do not want to spend hours re-setting everything up from scratch as I have upwards of 70 devices, all with reserved IPs etc. I have no idea why my password won't work and the Tether app even says the router is not bound to my TP Link account, which it most definitely was.

Clearly something bad happened to cause the crash but surely restoring the config file (that was working with the correct password), should have straightened everything out. In 6 years of using my Draytek Vigor router I never had a single issue. This has rather dented my confidence in the robustness of TP Link kit and if I really do have to set up everything from scratch again, I'll be going back to it for sure.

Is there any way at all round this to get access back to the router?

Hi,

When you logged into the BE550 following the factory reset the router must have asked you to create a new password.

Restoring a config backup file restores most settings, but, for example, not the original password. The password will still be the one that you set after the factory reset.
Perhaps Caps Lock was on or a different keyboard layout selected on your computer when you created the new router password this morning?

Anyway, if you can't figure out what went wrong when you set the new password after the factory reset, then unfortunately you will have to do the factory reset again and restore your config backup file to the BE550.

By the way, there is no "default password" on modern TP-Link routers.

Hi@a.wright,

I am glad to hear that your issue can be resolved.

Sometimes you can also try to log in to the router's management page from a different device to rule out the possibility that the router cannot be accessed due to a specific device.
