Why do you disable NAT on PPPoE connection?
TD-W9980 is working as a wireless router or wireless modem router?

So that others can find this.
you need to use telnet and the CLI to disable nat
to do this
telnet into your router using admin username and password
1. get a list of connections
wan show connection info
scroll back up the list to find the name of the pppoe connection
2. to see details of just one connection
wan show connection info
you will notice a section NatEnabled=1
3. to turn off nat
wan set service --protocol pppoe --username --password --nat disable
4. do 2 again, NATEnabled=0 - nat is off
warning every time you alter your pppoe connection parameters, you will turn NAT back on. So you will need to do it again.
Reboots should have no effect
I did this just to replace the crappy BT Business Hub 5 - large file copies over an IPSEC VPN caused it to reboot.
