Model: RE605X
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I’ve been facing a frustrating issue with my RE605X (AX1800 range extender) when using it alongside my Archer AX53 (AX3000). Hoping someone here (or TP-Link support) can help shed some light or share a fix.

My Setup:

  • Main Router: TP-Link Archer AX53 (AX3000)

  • RE605X: In extender mode, connected wirelessly to AX53 (no wired backhaul)

  • Mac Studio: Connected via Ethernet to RE605X

The Problem:

The Mac Studio keeps losing connection intermittently. I get bursts of packet loss and multiple "No route to host" errors when pinging 192.168.0.12 (the RE605X itself). Everything works fine for a bit, then suddenly drops for 5–10 seconds, and then comes back.

Example from ping:

64 bytes from 192.168.0.12: icmp_seq=1557 ttl=64 time=0.992 ms ping: sendto: No route to host Request timeout for icmp_seq 1558 Request timeout for icmp_seq 1559

It disrupts everything, downloads, file transfers, even basic browsing.

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • Switched out multiple Ethernet cables (including a fresh Cat 8, properly shielded, copper core, full 8P8C).

  • Verified the Mac negotiates at 1000baseT full duplex.

  • Disabled EasyMesh on both the RE605X and AX53.

  • RE605X - with and without easymesh

  • Updated the firmware to the latest available version.

  • Factory reset the RE605X and reconfigured it from scratch.

  • Observed the lights the device does not reboot during drops (power light stays solid).

  • Confirmed uptime is not resetting so not a hard crash, but seems like the LAN bridge fails temporarily.

  • Used a different laptop

  • Placed RE605X right next to my AX53

What I'm Looking For:

  • Is this a known issue with RE605X?

  • Could this be a firmware/driver bug related to the LAN port?

  • Is there a fix or even a beta firmware to try?

If anyone else has run into this or has suggestions, I’d really appreciate the help. Right now it’s basically unusable for a wired connection, even though everything looks good on paper.

Thanks in advance!

I was able to resolve this issue. It was an issue with my mac. For anyone else facing this, go to Ethernet Settings -> Hardware -> Select manual. This stops mac from auto negotiating and fixes the packet loss.

Hi@skords,

Welcome to our community.

May I know what is hardware version of your extender now? You can refer to How to find the hardware and firmware version of my TP-Link device

Please connect the Mac directly to the router, and check if the issue persists?

If you don't mind, please connect the Mac to RE605X via wireless for a comparison.

In addition, please help collect the system logs and backups files of the router and extender together.

For router:

How to view and save System Log of TP-Link wireless router

How to create and restore from a backup file on your TP-Link Router

For extender, firstly log in to the web management page:

How to log into the web management page of the range extender

Then go to Settings-->System Tools-->Backup&Restore,System log

Then email the logs and backups files to support.forum@tp-link.com, attaching [Forum ID 824438] and details, and we will have a dedicated person to assist in analysis and follow-up.

  @Joseph-TP

Hardware version is RE605X v3.0

Firmware Version: 1.1.6 Build 20241012 Rel. 63839(7378)

If connect my Mac directly to the router it works well (both over wifi and lan)

I have connected my Mac directly using wifi (easymesh on) to RE605X and it works fine and i get terrible speeds

Connecting to lan gives full speed (minimal loss over wifi extension) but gives packet losses

I have sent the logs to the mail

Sharing a snippet here as well for reference. I did not have mac connected over lan in this case:
