Set one deco to low preference?
Set one deco to low preference?

Hi
I have one deco unit that has a poor connection to the rest of my network. Is there a way to stop devices connecting to this one unless it’s the only one available? Usually two bars of signal from another deco would be better than three bars from this one.
This one is in my garage and so useful for when you're on the drive and for a camera, but when you're in the garden there are other Decos in the house that would provide a much better connection. The only options even remotely relevant to this are the "use mesh technology" and "fast roaming", but it's not clear either of these will do what I want.
Other mesh networks have this option, but Deco only seems to have it for Deco to Deco connections, and even that is to fix one connection, rather than to try to avoid a connection where possible..

Hi, thanks for the reply. I did receive your system log. While I didn't realize when you said "Deco X73", it refers to "Deco X73-DSL".
The current firmware of Deco X73-DSL 1.0.12 Build 20240517 Rel. 64015 doesn't support Connection Preference for mobile clients.
If possible, you can create a new Mesh network with Deco X60 and Deco M5, and set the Deco X60 as the main Deco. On the new network, you will have connection preference for both satellite Decos and mobile devices. Deco X60_V3 also supports WireGuard VPN Server/Client.
How to Create a New Network in the Deco App
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

Hi David
That's good to know. When I set it up I did read that the X73-DSL should be the main Deco, but I guess that was on the assumption that I was using a DSL connection?
I assume I will need to reset all the Decos before I start creating the new network? One of them is in a roof so I will need to get up there, or can I just delete the existing network first?

Yes, Deco X73-DSL would need to be the main Deco for the DSL connection. So you actually don't use a DSL connection, is that right?
- "Connection Preference" for mobile devices needs the support of all Deco units in the Mesh network.
- "Connection Preference" for satellite Decos only needs the support of the specific satellite unit.
So, for the "new Mesh network" that supports "Connection Preference" for mobile devices, Deco X73-DSL can't be involved.
If the internet conenction is not via DSL access and you don't want to delete the existing Mesh network, there are two ways to change the main Deco to one of the Deco X60(maybe the one not on the roof):
How to replace the main Deco with another Deco
Best regards.
