Hi

I've got issues with Apple devices . The speed test itself is fine but I suspect due to roaming between APs being an issue, I'm not sure how to rectify things so that Apple devices can roam nice and easily? This affects iPads, iPhones and imacs

I'm aware that Apple are just annoying when it comes to this, and it appears one can't actually select a DTIM setting any more in the controller. I've got 802.11r turned on now, to try and mitigate things and power set to medium across all APs (previously 802.11r was turned off and power was set to auto)

Yet I have feedback saying that a simple Google search doesn't work. Doing a speed test however shows positive results (between 85-135Mb/s down and around 20Mb/s up with just an 18ms ping)

I suspect that roaming however is the issue. Do I perhaps need to create a brand new SSID that's just 5Ghz only and connect Apple devices to that? Or are there other ways I can help rectify things?

Thanks

Hi  @an0nymous

How many EAP do you have? Are they all EAP620 HD?

Here is a troubleshooting guide for your reference.

What Should I Do If My Wireless Clients Have Roaming Issues?

  @Vincent-TP

Hi,

I have three EPA 620 HDs on v2.0 and one EAP 620 HD on v3.0. How would one know if say there's "ping pong" roaming?

Hi  @an0nymous

Ping-pong roaming refers to the phenomenon where a wireless client repeatedly roams back and forth between two EAPs.

Under this situation, possible symptoms include fluctuating WiFi signal strength on mobile devices and network lag. In some cases, there may be no noticeable symptoms.

Please make sure update the EAP to the latest firmware. We made some optimization for their latest versions.

In the meantime, please check if the 802.11r is enabled, if yes, please disable it to have another try.

@Vincent-TP Thanks. I followed the guide. None of that quite works, but I've noticed on Settings > Site Settings

There's a bit called "Beacon control"

I believe Apple prefer that the beacon interval is 100ms , with a DTIM of 3

So I'll see how that goes. There is no longer an option to suppress ping-pong connections too

Hi  @an0nymous

If the issue persists, please provide more details about the roaming issue. For example, when roaming, will the Wi-Fi symbol disappear? Or only the Internet stucks? Or else?
