Deco BE65 internet speed capped at 300 Mbps on PPPoE
I have two Deco BE65 units (hardware version 2.0, firmware version 1.1.7 Build 20250324 Rel. 32980)and my optical fiber internet speed is 1 Gbps. For the sake of testing speeds I have not used my second unit at all to rule out any issues with the satellite unit. My ISP has provided me with an ONT box along with EX520v router. The internet connection requires a PPPoE authentication and using VLAN ID of 20.
When I connect the ONT box to my ISP's EX520v router and let it handle the PPPoE and then connect Deco to the EX520v router, I get full 1 Gbps internet speeds. I have measured this both with the Deco app internet speed test and my computer connected to the Deco with a CAT-6 cable. Even my phone gets me very close to 1 Gbps speeds over wifi.
However, when I remove the EX520v from the setup and connect my Deco directly to the ONT box (with the same CAT-6 cable), I get a working internet connection, but consistently see speeds capped around 300 Mbps. I was able to configure PPPoE on my Deco without any issues and my ISP confirmed that VLAN ID 20 is correct. The only problem is that the speeds are capped and not reaching the full 1 Gbps.
Can you confirm whether the Deco BE65 has any documented PPPoE speed limitations in firmware or hardware?
I have not enabled QoS at all so that shouldn't be a factor. I'm wondering could it be that Deco negotiates the LAN speed wrong and uses 100 Mbps transfer speeds? I couldn't find a way to see the negotiated LAN speed either from the Deco app or from http://tplinkdeco.net/ management view. I have tested multiple cables, but none of them have fixed the issue. When I use the same cables to connect ONT to EX520v and then EX520v to the Deco, I always get full 1 Gbps speeds.
Any other ideas what could cap the speeds to around 300 Mbps when Deco is connected directly to the ONT box?
If I cannot solve the issue then I'll just leave EX520v to handle the PPPoE and keep my Deco in access point mode. But if possible I'd like to simplify the setup and leave out the ISP's EX520v router from the setup.
