Phenomenon Description:

Some users reported that when trying to connect Volvo XC/Volkswagen car audio systems to the Mobile WiFi, the Wi-Fi network is detected but there is a “!” on the Wi-Fi icon and message “Switch to WPA2(AES) on device” is displayed; Or there is a slash on the Wi-Fi icon and shows message like do not support the security settings of this network.

Recommended Solution:

Those care sound systems only support WPA2 AES wireless security; WPA/WPA2 AES or open Wi-Fi network is not supported, please try to update the following firmware, which added WPA2-AES wireless security.

@David-TP I had a similar issue where my Volvo’s infotainment system wouldn’t connect properly. Switching to WPA2-AES only resolved it completely.

Just a friendly tip to others who are upgrading devices around mobile hotspots: sometimes, even if your connection works fine, your CPU or internet bandwidth might be the real bottleneck—especially when streaming or using heavy network tasks. It’s often helpful to check your system’s performance balance before investing in new hardware. Great job TP-Link team for the helpful article!
