I updated the firmware for the router ( Archer C3150 ), but my laptop cannot detect my network any longer.

The update seemed to complete and the led indicators atop the router appear normal, but the wifi name does not appear in the available networks on my Win11 PC.

Where did I go wrong?

Hello@WBS,

If your router is still functioning properly, I think you can keep your existing WiFi equipment unless it can no longer keep up with your network plan or you have higher network requirements.

Of course, you can also learn about the differences and advantages between WiFi 5, WiFi 6 and WiFi 7, which may help you decide whether to upgrade your device.

WiFi 5 vs. WiFi 6: What's the Difference?

How is WiFi 7 different from WiFi 6?

Hello@WBS ,

Welcome to our community.

May I know what is the LED status of the router now?

If the router Internet LED turns red/orange occasionally:
    1) Connect a PC directly to your modem to verify if your ISP's Internet is stable.

    2) Ensure the Ethernet cable connecting your modem to the Router is properly connected, and replace old wires with new ones.
    3) Please change the DNS Server of the Router, log in to the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Advanced Settings, and change the two DNS Servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4,
How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router and DSL modem router (New UI)?

Thanks for the reply Joseph.

All 4 of the leds are steady and white,

I have powered down the router, my cable modem, and my PC, connected the PC to the router with an ethernet cable, repowered the modem, router and PC in that order. I still cannot access the router settings using the port addresses.

Hello @WBS ,

Thanks for getting back to me.

If you have connected the PC to the LAN port of the router, there should be five lights on. Please refer to:

Please confirm the WAN port is used for internet access.

If it doesn't work, please reset the router as below:

With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds until all LEDs light on (wireless LEDs may not light on if the WiFi on/off button is off). And then release the button and wait the router to reboot to its factory default settings.

More details, please refer to Archer C3150(EU)_V2_User Guide.

  @Joseph-TP

I reset the router and can access the internet via a wired connection, but not wirelessly.

I do not see the ssid in the list of detected networks on my PC.

All of the leds are white and steady.

  @WBS

I have the wireless network back now. I had neglected to hit save as I reset the ssid.

Thanks for your help.

One more question. the c3150 is version 5 of wifi. wouldl I gain better perfomance by upgrading to a 6 of 7? I am pretty happy with the performance as it is, but the router is around 10 years old.
