I am trying to setup a 2nd router for wireless access. (1st router with wireless disabled)
My mobile phone can connect to the wireless network.
On the 1st router, I can see the IP of the mobile device under ARP table.
But I am not able to browse the internet.
Any ideas as to what I am missing?
I've provided a more detailed description of my current setup below.
1st router.
BiPAC 7800N
Firmware: 1.06h
IP: 192.168.1.254
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Wireless: Disabled
2nd Router.
TP-Link TD-W8960N V3
Firmware: 1.4.0 Build 111108 Rel.40398n
IP: 192.168.1.253
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0 ( )
Disable DHCP server.
AP Mode: Access Point
Wireless: Enabled
Cabled port 4 on 1st router to port 4 on 2nd router.
Wireless is disabled on 1st router.
Wireless is enabled on the 2nd router.
I have ADSL internet access through 1st router.
I have a PC connected directly to 1st router which can access the internet.
PC can also connect to the Admin Console of both routers.

I have a similar problem connecting that modem to work as a router to a Vodafone station fiber modem router. thsi is the configuration of both devices
VS
-------------
IP: 192.168.1.1
SubetMask:255.255.255.0
IP192.168.1.1 set in the DMZ
DHCP enabled
wireless enabled
Router tplink
------------------
WAN IP:192.168.1.50
Lan IP: 192.168.2.1
SubetMask:255.255.255.0
DNS:8.8.8.8.
DHCP enabled (tried disabling it)
wireless disabled
Gateway: tried to set it to 192.168.1.1, or to the WAN port
The connection is from a Lan post i the VS to LAN port#1 of the TPLink modem router configured as WAN port.
I get a correct ip when I connect a device to a LAN port of the TPLink router but I am not able to browse the internet.
Thanks in advance to whoever will provide any help.
Pietro

Same Issue for me.
I want to connect the 8960n to a Vodafone Station but I was not able to connect to the internet.
here is my setup
VS (basically a Huawei wireless modem router with a fiber connection)
-------------
IP:192.168.1.1
Mask:255.255.255.0
DHCP enabled
Firewell OFF
IP 192.168.1.50 set in the DMZ
TPLink 8960n
--------------------
WAN IP:192.168.1.50
LAN IP:192.168.2.1
Mask:255.255.255.0
DHCP enabled
NAT enabled
Gateway:0.0.0.0 (tried setting it to 192.168.1.1 or to the WAN port but no success)
DNS:8.8.8.8 (or did not set and used the one in the vodafone station)
The 8960n is configured with the LAN port 1 as a WAN port and an ethernet cable is connecting this port to a LAN port in the Vodafone Station.
A device connected to a 8960n LAN port gets a correct IP (192.168.2.2) but it does not access the internet (resolving node.... forever)
From the notebook I can accept the TPLink configuration page but not the VS configuration page
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Pietro

Hi Kevsh,
thanks for your reply.
I have seen a typo in one of my msgs this is the current configuration
VS (basically a Huawei wireless modem router with a fiber connection)
-------------
IP:192.168.1.1
Mask:255.255.255.0
DHCP enabled
Firewall OFF
IP 192.168.1.50 set in the DMZ
TPLink 8960n
--------------------
WAN IP:192.168.1.50
LAN IP:192.168.2.1
Mask:255.255.255.0
DHCP enabled range 192.168.2.2-50
NAT enabled
Gateway:0.0.0.0 (tried setting it to 192.168.1.1 or to the WAN port but no success)
DNS:8.8.8.8 (or did not set and used the one in the vodafone station)
basically I set the WAN IP of the second router, the TPLink 8960n modem router, to be in the DMZ of the VS. Unfortunately I can not use TPLink device as a modem (as I used to when I had an ADSL connection) because the fiber signal needs to be managed by the Vodafone modem. Hate proprietary stuff but there is no work around for that.
BTW, I agree that the 2 router need to be in different subnets but in your example you used the same subnet (192.168.1.x) while I have 192.168.1.x for the VS and 192.168.2.x for the tplink router. Do you see any reason why thsi configuration would not work? disabling the DHCP in the VS brought no benefit.
Thanks!!

Re:Connect second router for wireless access

I have found the answer to my problem.
On the 1st router (Billion BiPAC7800N) I added the MAC address of the device to "Firewall - Ethernet MAC Filter",
and hey presto, I then had internet connectivity for my wireless device through the 2nd router.
NOTE:
On the 2nd router (TP-Link TD-W8960N V3) I had already specified the MAC for my device in "Wireless -- MAC Filter" which allowed wireless connectivity for my mobile.

So basically you created an exception in the firewall for your TpLink Router. It was a firewall issue, probably setting the phone in the wireless MAC filter in the TPLink router (the same one I have) is not strictly necessary, glad you solved your issue.
In my case the idea is to create a subnet with the router that is different from the LAN created by the first router, which is a modem as well.
I had disabled the firewall.
TpLink assistance in Italy confirmed that the configuration is correct, might be an issue with the modem or with the router (pretty old with the wireless that was not working and I was aware of this but it used work fine as an ethernet router)
