Model: Archer AX55 Pro
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.5

I use my router in the OpenVPN to put my Xbox in specific servers for a game I play. Specifically to join a public server with friends in various locations in the US where the game has servers. If it doesn't work in one location, we try another and so on. Using OpenVPN I have only 6 locations I can use.

Would I have the ability to have more locations using VPN server instead?

Hello @Vetelmo ,

Welcome to our community.

Optimizing gaming with a VPN isn't about “more servers being better,” but rather “a more efficient path being better.”

I understand your desire to achieve smoother, lower-latency gaming experiences through a VPN. This is a common technical need, but there are some important considerations to keep in mind.

Here are some recommendations for optimizing your gaming environment with a VPN:

  • Choose the right VPN provider—this is the most crucial step.
  • Use the correct testing methods to identify the specific server node best suited for your game.
  • Prioritize resolving local network issues: Use a wired connection (Ethernet cable) instead of WiFi, and close background programs consuming bandwidth (like streaming videos or downloads).

  @Joseph-TP

For my situation, everything is efficient. I have a good VPN. I'm wired.

I need more because we use more than 6 locations. For example I have it set up for

De Moines, Ia,

Los Angeles, Ca

New York, Ny

Dallas, Tx

Beijing, China

Miami, Fl

But we also set up Europe, South Africa and Australia.

  @Vetelmo

Hi,

It appears TP-Link makes the allowed number of VPN servers dependent on the price of the router. Below is a screenshot taken from an Archer BE550 V1. It allows up to 16 VPN servers to be added.
