Model: Deco X60
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 Build 20240830 Rel.50008

Hi everyone,

I have the following setup at home:

  • ISP: Türk Telekom Fiber (FTTH, PPPoE, VLAN ID 35)

  • ONT: Türk Telekom ZTE F601V7 (bridge mode)

  • ISP Router: Türk Telekom Huawei LG8245X6-50 (Wi-Fi disabled, router/NAT mode)

  • Mesh System: TP-Link Deco X60 v3.20 AX5400 (2-pack, wired backhaul with Cat7/8 cables)

Total active devices: around 14 (6 smartphones, 2 MacBooks, 2 game consoles – PS5 & Xbox Series X, 2 smart TVs, 1 Digiturk box, 1 desktop PC).

I am considering two possible setups:

  1. ONT → Huawei LG8245X6-50 (router/PPPoE) → Deco X60 units in AP mode (wired backhaul).

  2. ONT → Deco X60 main unit in Router mode (PPPoE, MTU 1492) → satellite Deco via wired backhaul.

Question:

For my usage (gaming on consoles with low ping priority, streaming on smart TVs, torrent/streaming apps on the TV, multiple phones and PCs), which setup is recommended for the best routing stability and performance:

  • Keeping Deco X60 in AP mode behind the ISP router?

  • Or using Deco X60 in Router mode directly with PPPoE?

Hi, welcome to the community.

The first topology is more recommended:

  1. ONT → Huawei LG8245X6-50 (router/PPPoE) → Deco X60 units in AP mode (wired backhaul).

Best regards.

Hi, sorry for the delay.

The ISP-provided router often had better compatibility with their internet service, especially for the VOIP/IPTV service. so, usually, if there is already an ISP-provided device, it is suggested to keep it as the main DHCP router and NAT gateway.

Best regards.
