Replacing the Main Deco BE65 with a BE85

I have a 5-station mesh, all Deco BE65, all with ethernet backhaul. The main is connected to my Fiber modem (10 Gbps service).
I want to try and replace the main BE65 with a BE85, which has 10 Gbps ports.
My questions:
1. do I need to do anything special, in order not to break the rest of the mesh or is it really as simple as unplugging the 65 and plugging in the 85? Or do I need to add the 86 to the mesh and then make it the Main?
2. will my IP address segment change?
3. Anything else I need to be aware of?
Thanks

Hi,
Both Deco BE85 and Deco BE65 are updated to 1.2.0, and their supported software features are almost the same.
Generally, you wouldn't lose the IP segment.
You can start adding Deco BE85 as a satellite Mesh, then switch it as the main Deco to keep the current network configurations:

1. If your BE65 units have options and features not in the firmware of the BE85 you will lose them if you switch your main from the BE65 to the BE85 and vice versa. Your new BE85 units may support items your BE65 don't, So you have to weight which options do you really care about having more. You "should: be able to add the new units into your current network without make one of the BE85 as the main.
2. If you want to make one of them as a main there are two options on how to do this one recommend by tp link that "sometimes" works and then the one i recommend using if option #1 fails. You can find both options below. Will it change your IP address, to be honest I'm not sure
Configuring multiple models of deco units to operate concurrently.
If you have multiple models of Deco units, it is recommended to designate the new model as the primary Deco and the older models as secondary units.
There are two methods to achieve this. Regardless of the option you choose, please ensure that your network is configured according to either the first or second examples in this image: https://static.tp-link.com/upload/faq/image-20240329074344-12_20240329144345n.png.
**Option #1 (Not recommended)**: For guidance, please refer to the following link: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2400/.
**Option #2**:
1. Reset all of your Deco units by pressing the reset button on each one.
2. Using the Deco app, set up your newest Deco as the main unit. Since you have factory reset each unit, you will be able to use the same network SSID and password as before.
3. Once the newer model is operational, return to the app and add the remaining Decos to your network.

@pvanosta I can confirm that, following the recommended procedure (booting up the BE85 next to the Main BE65, connecting to the main BE65 on the phone app, selecting 'Replace main deco, connecting the BE85 to the BE65 via ethernet once the BE85 blinks blue, then following the steps in the app) worked fine. Took just a couple of minutes and the BE85 is now the main Deco, connected to the 10Gbps port of the fiber modem. Thanks all for your input!
