Model: Archer GE800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20250715 rel.34589

Hi!

Does Archer GE-800 v. 1.6 support GPON networks via a GPON ONU SFP module in its SFP+ port?

If not is firmware update coming with this support?

i thought the purpose of SFP+ ports was to plug fibre directly into the router and now it looks like I can only use GPON internet via ONU terminals.

Hello@VadK,

Welcome to our community.

If you want to use the SFP+ port on your router as the WAN port and replace the ISP provided ONT/ONU, it is generally necessary to use an SFP+ ONU Stick in conjunction with it.
However, SFP+ ONU Sticks are not widely applicable to all ISPs, the choice of SFP+ ONU Stick largely depends on whether it has been verified and approved by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). It is highly recommended to reach out to your ISP to acquire an officially verified, compatible SFP+ ONU Stick, as we can't guarantee compatibility, availability, or stability.

Hello, I would like to follow up on the request made by the user, as I have the possibility to use the SFP+ stick provided by my ISP, which is working on my line with an older router. However, my ISP requires me to authenticate with a password before proceeding with the subsequent PPPoE authentication. After reviewing the various authentication options, I cannot find where to enter a password for GPON authentication. Could you please assist me with this configuration? Best regards

Hello @Vinc86 ,

Welcome to our community.

May I know the model of your older router? Because the Archer GE800 is a wireless router, not a PON router.

It's likely that you won't be able to verify the PPPoE authentication step on GE800.

If it's just a standard PPPoE configuration, you can refer to How to setup TP-Link Wi-Fi Router on web management page

Best Regards.

HI  @Joseph-TP

The router was an older model from another brand.

At the moment, PPPoE authentication works correctly because the initial authentication is performed through a ZTE GPON ONT, which handles the first authentication step. However, this obviously reduces the available bandwidth, creating a bottleneck.

Unfortunately, this router is missing that initial authentication phase required by the ISP.

Since I believe this is a hardware limitation rather than a firmware issue, would it be possible to request that this authentication feature be added?

many thanks
