EC220-G5 V2 and DFS
Hello,
I am looking for DFS specifications for this model, but the link of the User Guide/Specs seems to point to another WiFi router model.
Download para EC220-G5 | TP-Link Brasil
The user guide menu (and model) pictures looks very different from my current firmware, wich has less options. Also, EC220 model is not cited whatsoever in that document.
Using the router as an Extender, whenever my main WiFi router uses a DFS Channel, the EC220-G5 is not able to connect to it using 5G (which would be ideal). I end up using 2G, which has a nice range, but the speed is pretty low.
Is there a firmware update that allows to connect to DFS Channels (as an extender)?
Daniel

Hello@dplc81 ,
Welcome to our community.
Have you got the EC220-G5 via your Internet Service Provider? Please note that the EC220-G5 is a custom device designed specifically for local service providers. Different firmware versions may cause differences in the router's web interface display.
Each firmware version is tailored to meet the unique needs of different service providers, ensuring it meets their specific requirements.
Because of the specific firmware characteristics of your device, we recommend contacting the technical support of the service provider who provided the device. They are the best ones to provide the necessary assistance for your device.

@Joseph-TP Hi, thanks for answering.
That's not the case, my EC220-G5 is not tied to any internet provider, I bought it in a known store. Also, I am able to flash the firmware listed on the same link I listed above, which I understand is the lastest.
The visuals are somewhat alike, some with more or less options. Just to give an example, the manual provided in the EC220-G5 support page mentions this device as "TP-Link AX router". Operation mode menu shown in the manual (pg. 18) lacks the option "Extender", just displaying "Router (current mode)" and "Access Point", while my router actual menu has also a third option, which I use, called "Extender". Also, I can't find any EasyMesh option in the actual firmware.

Hi,
As far as I can tell, on their home routers TP-Link makes the DFS channels available only on models that support 160 MHz channel width.

@woozle Hi! Thanks for the attention.
I can understand DFS not being available for the extended/repeated network, and that would not be a problem, being a product specification.
I think my first post was not well worded.
When in the Repeater/Extender mode, EC220-G5 v2 is unable to "see" the main router 5G network when it is using a DFS channel (between 52 and 144). When the main 5G network uses something like 36 or 149, for example, EC220-G5 automatically connects and "shares" the 5G network. Frequently the repeater is working, and suddenly, whenever the channel changes to a DFS channel, the repeater stops working (and 2G network will not assume without manual intervention).
I don't want to set a non-DFS channel in the main router because I want it to choose automatically the best available channel, be it DFS or not.
Also, all my old devices devices like phones and laptops all are able to "see" the 5G network in whatever channel it is, just my router EC220-G5 will not "see" the network. The 5G is simply delisted from the detected signal when I configure the router.
I'm also studying to test OpenWRT firmware, since I found out my model is fully supported (V2). Anyway, it would be nice if it would be fixed in the official firmware (if it is a real issue, and not just a product limitation).

The operation mode doesn't matter in this case. TP-Link's router models that don't support using the DFS channels do not support them in any mode.
Besides, Wi-Fi extenders/repeaters use the channel they use to connect to the host network also for the extended/repeated network (of each frequency band). I have not seen one that works differently.
So it would be very confusing if the router in "Extender" mode could "see" Wi-Fi networks that use DFS channels, but then not allow the user to select any of them.
Provided the hardware inside the EC220-G5 V2 supports DFS (which I am not sure about), then OpenWrt should allow you to use the DFS channels.
