Can i isolate extender to one device only?

Firmware Version:

Hi,

Im a novice at organising my wifi for a busy family of 5.  I have a TP Link MR200 router working on an Esim, and i have noticed that with the amount of devices on at the same time in the house when i watch my smart tv at night it buffers badly.  I have bought a RE315 extender and have added to the network and can see it on the app.  But i would like to stop anyone else connecting to it apart from my tv - can that be done?

Thanks

Are the network names (SSID) of the Archer MR200 and the RE315 the same?

If yes, then the MR200 and the RE315 are most likely working as a OneMesh/EasyMesh network and you will not be able to force your TV and phones to connect either to the MR200 or the RE315.

What you could do is to switch off the OneMesh/EasyMesh feature of the MR200 and/or RE315. After that you should be able to change the network names (SSID) of the RE315 to something different, like "OnlyForTV" and then connect only the TV to this new network. Since the phones won't know this new network they cannot connect to it.

Hi,

Have you setup the RE315 as a wireless range extender (i.e. "Range Extender Mode") or as a wired Wi-Fi access point (i.e. "Access Point Mode") ?

Hi@mgarth,

Welcome to our community.

As Woozle mentioned, please set the wireless names to be different on the router and the extender. Disable the OneMesh button if it is enabled.

Here is the FAQ: How to change wireless settings of TP-Link range extender on Tether App.

Then, you can connect the TV to the new wireless name of the extender, allowing other clients to be connected to the main router.

Best Regards.
