Ports won't open... But will via UPnP

Model: Archer AX55 Pro
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: Latest

As the title says. When I go to NAT Forwarding - port forwarding and add a port and save it doesn't open. I'm using several port checker websites to check.

However, if I set a port to open in the UPnP section of my synology NAS, it will then send yhe setting to the router and open the port. Even if it isn't opened in the port forwarding of the router.

I wish to have UPnP turned off.

Why won't the ports open on the router when I open them?

I'm trying to open 80 and 443 so I can setup a reverse proxy.

Hi,

Just to recap. You are saying that if you tell the NAS to open ports 80 and 443 for that identical IP address on the AX55 Pro via UPnP, then ports 80 and 443 show up as being forwarded in the "UPnP Client List" of the AX55 Pro, port checker websites show ports 80 and 443 as "open" and your reverse proxy works as expected. Is that correct?

In general, if you want to get rid of UPnP, you should do that on both your router and Synollogy NAS.

On your router disable UPnP an manually set up pott-forwarding.

On Synology NAS:

Access the Control Panel in DSM.
Navigate to Security > Firewall.
Create firewall rules to allow the necessary incoming connections from the internet to your NAS on the specific ports you have forwarded.

if upnp works but manual port forwarding does not that usually means the forwarding rules are correct but something upstream is blocking or overriding them first thing to check is if your isp gives you a real public ipv4 address or if you are behind cgnat because if it’s cgnat no manual rules will work only upnp tricks sometimes get through also note that ports 80 and 443 are often blocked or filtered by many isps to prevent customers from hosting web servers so even with the rule in place the port checkers will always show closed to confirm try forwarding a high random port like 50000 to your nas and test it externally if that works then the issue is not the router but your isp policy on 80/443 if high ports also fail then check if the ax55 wan is in router mode with a real public ip if your main modem is also routing you may have double nat and in that case you need to either enable bridge mode on the isp modem or set up dmz towards the ax55

@terziyski sure. I went to chatgpt and described my issue. It walked me though the steps to fix it. Don't remember them, don't care. Just go to chatgpt before going to ask a person on a forum. Way quicker and easier.

You can literally cut and paste 100 lines of code and it will instantly come back and tell you you missed a decimal point.

There's no need to ever visit a forum for an answer again.
