XE75 and S4 IoT network

XE75 and S4 IoT network

Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.3.0

I have a network of 3 XE75 and a single S4.

I have enabled the IoT network (2.4 only) and find that the S4 does not transmit the IoT network, only the main network.

I have the main network set to 5 and 6 GHz only.

I see that 1.7.0 for the S4 added IoT (which is the version I am running) so perhaps this version isn't perfect yet?

Any ideas?

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you have a Deco Mesh network with multiple units, and you've enabled the IoT network (2.4GHz only). However, you noticed that one of your Deco units (the S4) does not broadcast the IoT network, even though it is running firmware version 1.7.0, which should support this feature.

To clarify, the IoT Network on Deco is a dedicated network designed specifically for IoT devices, allowing for better compatibility and management. While most Deco models support the IoT network, there are some important notes:

1. The IoT network feature is available on most Deco models, but not all. If you do not see the IoT Network menu in your Deco app, or if a specific Deco unit does not broadcast the IoT network, it may be due to hardware limitations or firmware compatibility.

2. All Deco units in the same mesh network need to support the IoT network feature and be updated to the latest firmware. If even one unit does not fully support the feature, the IoT network may not be broadcasted consistently across all units.

3. The IoT network supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, but not 6GHz, as most IoT devices are not compatible with 6GHz Wi-Fi.

4. The IoT network and the main network have different network names, but devices on both networks can communicate with each other as they are on the same local area network.

What you can do:
• Ensure all Deco units, including the S4, are updated to the latest firmware.
• If the S4 still does not broadcast the IoT network, it may be a limitation of that model or a firmware issue. Some features may be gradually rolled out or may require additional updates for full compatibility.
• If the IoT network is critical for your setup, consider using only Deco models that fully support the IoT feature throughout your mesh network.

  @HelpFixDecoApp

I have 3 x XE75 all running 1.3.0 build 20250722 38703

The S4 is running 1.7.0 build 20250718 68299

The deco app shows me the IoT network option.

When iot is set to 2.4 only, WPA2 only, the S4 does not transmit the IoT SSID but the XE75 units do. The S4 does transmit the main network on 5ghz correctly. Setting the IoT network to 2.4 and 5 or changing the security settings does not alter this.

Re-enabling the 2.4ghz mode on the main network causes the S4 to start transmitting the main network SSID at 2.4, so the hardware appears to be fine, but this does not make the IoT network appear.

It would seem that although the 1.7.0 firmware enables the IoT option, it does not let the unit actually transmit the network correctly?

I have tried resetting the S4 unit without success.

The S4 also does not show connection preference options but I believe this has been looked at in a different thread and that there is a new 1.7 beta firmware that addresses this - is it worth trying the beta for the IoT issue?

Hi, Deco S4_v1/v2_1.7.0 hasn't added IOT Network. So only Deco XE75 would broadcast IOT SSID.

Best regards.

@David-TP Thanks David, that answers that then! I must have misread the release notes fo S4 vs M4.

On paper, the M4 and S4 seem very similar - do you know if it is planned for the S4 to be updated to support IoT in the future like the M4?

Hi, thanks for the update.

There is a plan for Deco S4_V2 as well. But the ETA of the specific firmware is unclear for Deco S4_V2.

Theoretically, Deco S4_V2 should follow up the firmware release path of Deco M4, but apparently, it has been delayed for quite some time.

Best regards.
