adapter disconnects randomly, sometimes causing windows to reinstall the wrong driver for it
The adapter disconnects randomly , it causes my windows computer to reinstall a different drive when it reconnects. I managed to fix that by preventing windows from installing new drivers for devices automatically, but the disconnections continues, normally for a short periods of time.
After searching a while I found this Reddit thread about the same issue, with a potential fix. https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/158w8z3/tplink_usb_wifi_adapter_continuously_disconnects/juxbgmk/
some of your devices might be having issues with power draws, but it is still being sold to customers. Hopefully the solution people found on this thread will help you narrow the possibilities. Please investigate.

Hello @atpker ,
Thanks for your feedback.
When you mentioned 'it causes my Windows computer to reinstall a different driver when it reconnects,' are you referring to an installation package on the PC? Once the PC reconnects to the network, it automatically triggers a download. Have you confirmed whether the downloaded driver is for the adapter or another device?
Did you try the solution provided by the link you sent? Did it help?
There may be many reasons for an unstable connection. The following FAQ also provides suggestions:
What should I do if the TP-Link network adapter is not working properly in my computer? (Please see case 2)

@Joseph-TP Hi, I am still testing that solution,
The driver being installed automatically is "Realtek Semiconductor Corp."
driver version: "1030.44.1014.2024"
which is much slower than the 500+ mb i expect, and has much higher latency.
I followed the FAQ, didn't help much. My solution in the mean time is to preventing windows from installing new drivers for this device using Group Policy. But I don't yet know if it will help.

Hi,
The driver version that works best for me is 1030.52.0325.2025. An advantage over the old driver from 2020 is that it supports WPA3.
It can be found for download on the following website. Make sure to select "... 1030.52.0325.2025" from the dropdown menu.
https://driverpack.io/en/hwids/USB%5CVID_0BDA%26PID_B812?os=windows-10-x64 (hint: click on the download link "https://dl.driv..." to download the driver file directly)

You’re right — this is usually a power management issue with USB adapters. Try this fix:
Go to Device Manager → Network Adapters → Archer T4U Plus → Properties → Power Management tab, then uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
Also, plug the adapter into a USB 2.0 port (not 3.0) or use a powered USB hub — it often stops random disconnects caused by unstable voltage.
This should stabilize the connection and stop Windows from reinstalling the wrong driver.
