Hello,

I hope I haven't been scammed by TPLink false advertising. But I got one of thee Wifi extenders to extend my 500Mbps Wifi (from FTTP) and it's extending the wireless signal pretty well around 450Mbps, but the Ethernet Port extension is only pushing max 95Mbps, like it's been capped at 100 or using the old ethernet standard of 10/100. This can't be right, it was advertised as Gigabit Ethernet Port on the box. What gives TPLink? Do we need to report this to the ACCC consumer regulator for false advertising.

PS - Please don't give me a beginners checklist like check your router distance, use direct ethernet from modem and all that crap, I'm a tech and tried everything with this extender, it doesn't push past 100 on the ethernet port. The wifi signal is fine, everything else is fine, it's just this product refuseses to go past 100 on the ethernet.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Does the client device that you have connected to the RE450's Ethernet port report the Ethernet link speed as only 100 Mbps?

What is the hardware version of your RE450?

I have a RE450 V4 and I can definitely get above 500 Mbps via its Ethernet port.

Multiple clients tested.

1) a router with Gigibabit ethernet ports

2) a new laptop with Gigabit ethernet port

3) a PC with Gigabit ethernet port

All of them are showing the same speed of 95/75Mbps, when connected directly to this RE450 network port.

This is crazy. Can't find any settings in the RE450 except the wifi extender signal strengh, which is set to Maximum.

Hardware version 4 like yours. But this should NOT make any difference, the product is advertised as Gigabit ethernet out of the box, shouldn't require specific hardware of firmware to work as advertised! Fck TpLink!

Hello @Jules800 ,

As Woozle shared, this model and hardware version can achieve normal wired speeds.
Have you tried a different cable for the testing?

If it still gets about 100Mbps, please hard reset it for a try: Use a pin to press and hold for 1 second to reset the extender.

Yes buddy, tried different cables, Cat 5e, Cat6a, Cat8.

Also reset it during setup and didn't make a different.

It's a piece of crap.

Funny thing is, I bought 2 of these extenders and just tried the second one and it had the same issue today. Can't go past 95Mpbs via the Ethernet port, while Wifi can.

This is driving me nuts.

By "Ethernet link speed" I meant the actual link speed of the Ethernet connection, not Speedtest results.

On Windows computers the link speed is shown in the "Properties" of the network connection. It should be shown in numbers like 100/100 Mbps or 1000/1000 Mbps.
