I have just purchased a three pack Deco BE65 to improve the poor EE WiFi around my house. I get 900mbps to the router, but using the EE boosters I'm lucky to get 150mbps less than 10 meters away and we are in a new build house so it's not got thick walls. 
 

I set up the BE65 today but it wouldn't allow me to connect directly to the EE wall modem as the light on the main deco just kept going red, so I ended up connecting through the EE router after switching off WiFi on the EE router and I'm now getting 800mbps through the Deco's where I was previously getting the poor speeds, which is brilliant. 
 

My questions are -

 

1/ Am I unable to use one of the BE65's as my main router whilst I have an active digital phone package with EE, even though I don't use it? I've read that might be the issue? 

2/ When im setting up the BE65, do I need to specifically select PPPoE and put in a username and password, and if so where do I get that as EE said I don't need one? 

Sorry if these are basic questions but the instructions aren't the best and I want to do away with my EE router and use the main Deco along with the 2 other units as my network.

It sounds like you’ve already made great progress with your setup and the speed results through the Decos are really good. Regarding your questions: If you still have an active EE digital phone service, you’ll need to keep the EE router connected because the phone line depends on it. The Deco cannot handle the digital voice service directly, so in that case the current setup (Deco connected to EE router with Wi-Fi disabled on the EE router) is the best approach. If you want to connect the Deco directly to the ONT (the wall fibre modem), you’ll need to use PPPoE mode during the setup and enter the PPPoE credentials from EE. Sometimes EE doesn’t automatically provide them, but you can request them from EE support - just ask for your broadband PPPoE username and password. Once you have those, you can connect the main Deco directly to the fibre modem and it should work fine without the EE router

Do you know if the landline needs to be cancelled before the Deco can be used as the main router rather than through the EE router? 


I spoke to EE today and they said I won’t need a   username or password to plug straight in to the modem and they said they don't have passwords to 'active' the line on a 3rd party router. I read however that the username is typically bthomehub@btbroadband.com, and a password may be left blank, though some forums suggest the password is "BT" or can be left blank. It's a mystery!
