Model: Archer BE6500
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Recently Bought a TP link BE6500. I have a wired connection speed of 780mbps but only 340mbps wifi. The box boasts about 6700mbps on 5ghz. I obviously get no where near that. Is wifi being throttled on this router out of the box?

I can see other have had the same issue on much faster wired speeds but I cannot see a resolution.

Does anyone have a fix for this? getting a faster internet plan isn't an option.

Hello @Matenextdoor ,

Welcome to our community.

6700Mbps is the ideal speed for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), which requires strict conditions such as 160MHz bandwidth, 4×4 MIMO, and zero interference.

When wireless devices access the Internet, data must pass through the router's wired WAN port (which connects to the ISP). If the wired bandwidth is 780Mbps, the maximum outbound speed of the entire network is determined by the wired speed, even if the theoretical speed of Wi-Fi is higher. Generally speaking, wireless speeds can reach 30%- 70% of wired speeds.

If you want to increase wireless speeds, try the following suggestions:
• Disable QoS: Log in to the router’s web interface (http://tplinkwifi.net), go to Advanced > QoS, and make sure QoS is turned off.
• Parental Controls: In the Tether app, check Parental Control settings and ensure no profiles are limiting your devices.
• Wi-Fi Channel Optimization: In the web interface, go to Advanced > Wireless Settings and try different 5GHz channels to find the one with the least interference.
• UPnP and SIP ALG: Go to Advanced > NAT Forwarding > UPnP and disable it. Also, go to Advanced > Security and disable SIP ALG, as these can sometimes affect Wi-Fi performance.
• Speedtest Servers: Try different servers on Speedtest by Ookla, as some may give better results than others.
