Hi!

 

I'm setting up a wifi system to my house, that has several dead zones with one wifi base station. 

 

My original idea was to have a wifi mesh setup where the Deco X10s would extend BE3600s coverage (network map below). It appears there is no way to do this kind of setup with the very limited options in the deco app. Is there some way to go around the limitations?

Another problem I faced was that when the deco units were connected to BE3600's gigabit ports, the main Deco would not see the other Decos

 in the ethernet network and would establish a wireless link. I could not find a way to setup the BE3600 to go around that limitation. Am I missing something? I Ended up adding a switch between the main and slave Decos (current network map below) and now I at leas have decent coverage with full badwidht the ISP offers. However most of BE3600's capabilities (wifi7 & all but one gigabit ports) are left unused and the wifi coverage is sub-optimal. Is there anything that I can still do to optimize the network?

When you set up the deco units are you running in them router or AP mode? Were you able to set them all up and see them all in the deco app? What are the color of the LED's on all the decos? Is the switch managed or unmanaged.

 

If you want to keep using the BE3600 then the decos should be set to run in AP mode.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Did you just purchase Deco X10?

 

Deco X10 doesn't support EasyMesh, so it can wirelessly connect to Archer BE3600. The main Deco has to be connected via an Ethernet cable to the Archer BE3600.

If you're looking for a wireless setup. The EasyMesh range extender, such as RE235BE, would be a good choice:https://www.tp-link.com/en/easymesh/product-list/#range-extenders

 

The default working mode of Deco is also a wireless router, and only one Deco can be connected to the ISP gateway. If you plan to connect all three Deco units directly to Archer BE3600, you'll need to change the operation mode to "Access Point" mode:https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/1842/

  @David-TP Thanks for your response!

 

So there is basically no way to setup a seamless mesh wifi with my router and the Decos. I quess I'll need to settle with my current setup that seems to work fairly well and the other family members seen happy with the wifi coverage.

Wireless setup is not an option. For months I tried to make the Deco mesh work with only wireless backhaul, but I found out it was complete waste of time. I my house it didn't offer a stabile and reliable coverage (backhaul link between Decos cut off on a daily basis and client devices got stranded without internet access) and I ended up installing ethernet cables between them.

 

I actually did a lot of googling last week and read through the instructions to setup the Deco units. However the Deco app (3.9.165) I got from Google store is much more limited than the screenshots in the FAQs. There simply is no option to change operation mode. Maybe I could try to source another version.

With the pictured 1st iteration of the network map Deco's leds turned green only after they established a wireless link (with a pathetic throughput). With the current 2nd iteration wired backhaul works fine and leds turn green very quick. This with the full ISP's throughput.

 

Since the BE3600 and Deco X10 don't support same mesh technology, there probably is no way of achieving a seamless network with them. And it seems that the current Deco app is much more limited and doesn't offer most of the setup options pictured in the linked pages. Basically there is only options to change names and wich one of the decos serve as the main Deco. I hope I'll have some future needs for the now unused capabilities of the router.
