Firmware Version: 1.2.1 Build 20250804 rel.79639(5553)

Hi,

I'm currently using the Archer BE230 V1.2 with its latest firmware, but despite trying several methods, I still can't connect to my OpenVPN through either TCP or UDP. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

K

Hi,

Are you trying to setup the BE230 as a VPN server or VPN client?

@woozle VPN Client. I've tried almost all the methods I could find.

Is it the usual problem that the router says "Connecting" forever, but never connects?

Is the VPN server on the other side also run by you or are you connecting to a third-party server, like NordVPN?

Hi  @woozle

I'm using SurfShark VPN

Theoretically the setup should be straightforward.

I noticed that TP-Link recommends to select "Set up manually" instead of clicking on the "Surfshark" button. If you haven't tried so already, then maybe try again exactly as written in the following two articles.

 Hi @woozle ,

I've tried to setup manually, exactly like the one shown in links you've provided. It doesn't work.

Does the BE230 ever show you an error message or does it just keep saying "Connecting"?

No error message, just kept connecting forever. Restarting the modem/router or the PC no effects.

Does your Surfshark OpenVPN connection work fine with other VPN clients, like for example the official "OpenVPN Connect" software for Windows?

Anyway, another option you could try with your BE230 is to use WireGuard instead of OpenVPN. As far as I can tell does Surfshark offer both options.

Yes. It works with OpenVPN Connect.

Although WireGuard functions properly, I require OpenVPN to bypass geographic restrictions for streaming Netflix on my Smart TV, as WireGuard is consistently detected.
