Hello,

When I first set up my TP-Link ID it was using an old email which has since been deactivated.  I am still able to access my TP-Link ID as I am posting this thread but I cannot proceed with email verification for account deletion as I have no access to my old email anymore.

Please can anyone help?

Thanks

Hello @ryan806 ,

To change the TP-Link ID bound to your TP-Link Router, you need to unbind the router from the previous TP-Link ID and then bind it to a new TP-Link ID. There are two methods to do this:

Method 1: Using the Tether App

1) Login to the Tether App with the previous TP-Link ID. Go to "More" and select "Manager."

2) Tap the three dots on the right side of your TP-Link ID, then tap "Unbind" to remove the router from the previous TP-Link ID.

3) After unbinding, log out of your account from the Tether App, and then Log in with your new email. If it's not a TP-Link ID yet, sign up with the new email.

4) Bind the router to your new TP-Link ID.

Method 2: Using the Web Interface

1) Login to the web interface of the router using the previous TP-Link ID.

2) Navigate to the "Advanced" menu and select "TP-Link ID" page.

3) Unbind the router from the previous TP-Link ID on the same page.

4) After unbinding, you can bind the router to your new TP-Link ID on the same page.

However, if you are unable to log in with the previous TP-Link ID to unbind it or it keeps on telling you that your email address is not bound to the device, please follow these steps:

1) Connect the router to the internet.

2) Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button until the power LED starts flashing.

3) Set up the router again and bind it to your TP-Link ID.

  @Joseph-TP

Hello

I do not have a TP-Link router anymore but have some smart home devices.  I just want to change my email but it will not let me so I have no other option but to request deletion.

Hi@ryan806 ,

Do you have Tapo or Kasa smart home devices? It is recommended to start a new thread here

  @Joseph-TP

I have a doorbell and bulb and I've tried changing the email but I can only change my username.

Why is it so difficult?  I just want it deleted now as I've made a new account

Hello @ryan806 ,

Since I am not responsible for Smart Home devices, I suggest you contact local support or Smart Home Community first.

Here are some relevant suggestions I was able to find:
1. Changing the Email Address:
Currently, the Tapo app does not allow you to directly change the email address linked to your TP-Link ID/Tapo account. The email address is the primary identifier for your account and cannot be updated from within the app.
2. Switching to a New Account:
• Open the Tapo app, go to Me > View Account, and log out of your current account.
• Log in with your new account/email.
3. Binding Your Devices to the New Account:
• To bind your Tapo devices (like your doorbell and bulb) to your new account, you will need to reset each device to factory settings as described in the user manual.
• After resetting, set up the devices again in the Tapo app while logged into your new account.

4. Deleting Your Old Account:
• If you want to delete your old TP-Link account, you can refer to How can I delete my TP-Link cloud account?
Please note that deleting your TP-Link Cloud account (including Tapo, Kasa, Deco, Tether, etc.) will permanently remove all data and metadata associated with your account. This action cannot be undone, and you will not be able to recover any cloud-specific information, even if you register again with the same email address.
