Hi everyone,

I recently bought a TP link router from Zolpa Store. It’s a single-band 2.4GHz router with 2 fixed antennas and supports IEEE 802.11n/b/g.

The problem I’m facing is that the Wi-Fi signal keeps dropping intermittently, especially in rooms farther from the router. I’ve tried basic troubleshooting like rebooting and moving it to a more central location, but the issue persists. Has anyone used this model before? Are there settings or tweaks I can try to stabilize the Wi-Fi connection? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought it thinking it would be the cheapest option for network router in Nepal, but now I'm facing issues. I called the store and made an inquiry, they took it and returned it saying everything is alright. should I change the physical location of the router or what? The company has assured me replacement if any issues arises again, which one should I buy next?

Hello @harrism ,

Welcome to our community.

It seems that you are experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi signal drops, especially in rooms farther from your TP-Link Wi-Fi Router. Here are some steps to stabilize your connection and improve your Wi-Fi coverage.

1. Update Firmware: Log in to your router’s web interface (http://tplinkwifi.net), go to Advanced > System > Firmware Update, and ensure your router’s firmware is up to date.

2. Check WAN (Internet) Connection:
• Try connecting a computer directly to your modem to check if your ISP connection is stable.
• Try replacing Ethernet cable between your modem and router with new ones if possible.
• Change the DNS server settings in your router 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 for improved reliability.

3. Improve Wireless Stability:
• Place your router in an open, central location in your home, away from cabinets, shelves, or metal objects that can block the signal.
• In the web interface, go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings. Try switching to a different Wi-Fi channel to reduce interference from other networks nearby.
• For 2.4GHz routers, set the channel width to 20MHz for better stability, especially in crowded wireless environments.

4. Check Client Devices:
• Make sure your devices (phones, laptops, etc.) have up-to-date network drivers or system updates.
• Ensure your devices are not restricted by any Parental Control profiles on the router.

5. Consider Wi-Fi Coverage Limitations:
Single-band 2.4GHz routers have limited range and may struggle to cover larger homes or penetrate thick walls. If your home is larger or has many obstacles, you may experience weak signals in distant rooms. In such cases, you can consider adding a range extender, powerline adapter, or upgrading to a dual-band router for better coverage.
