Using TP RE450 as an access point with a wired connection
Hi,
I am a complete novice and looking for some help. Please bear with me!
I have my main broadband router and I want to hard wire that to my range extender via cat6 cable. I have had some recent house mods and have installed a network socket in an ideal place for where my extender will be placed so that it can be fed from the man router via a Cat6 cable.
Currentky when I am using the extender with WiFi I get the network of the main router as XXXXXX and the extender signal showing as XXXXXX_EXT. They both have the same password but I seem to have to switch network selection on WiFi enabled devices to connect to either one depending on where I am in the house to get the best signal.
I have read that it is possible to set it up the extender as an access point using a wired connection by changing the operation mode. When I tried this though the WiFi network changed its name from XXXXXX_EXT to Tether...
Is it possible to somehow change the extender settings and set it up as follows...
1. Fibre supply into house and into main router
2. WiFi signal sent out from main router covering part of house. (Network ID XXXXXX)
3. A hard wired supply from main router to TP extender in another part of the house.
4. A WiFi signal supplied from extender to give strong coverage in whole hoise (us the same network ID of XXXXXX)
So all WiFi signals (from main router and extender) to have same network name and password so any WiFi connected devices don't have to be switched between networks for best signal based on position in the house.
Can this be done?
Also if I just used the extender with WiFi supply can I change the network ID to remove the _EXT so it is the same as the main router?
Thanks
