Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: Default as delivered. Havent received the unit yet.

Hi Tp-Link

Asus provides this feature on alot of their in-expensive router and have done so for many years: Example - Asus RT-AC58u supports 3g/4g usb tethering, which I have used extensively.

It is very surprising to me that a product which seems to be of high quality (Archer BE550) does not provide the user with this essentiel functionality.

I will have to rely on usb-c to ethernet adapter tethering instead, which is not optimal, but an inconvenient work-arround. Even my Raspberry Pi supports usb tethering from an android phone :-).

I am very much looking forward to utilizing this router in my home network :-).

Kindly regards

Søren Madsen

Hello @Smadsen ,

Thanks for contacting our community.

Currently, we have some portable travel routers that support USB Tethering Mode, such as TL-WR3602BE,TL-WR3002X, and TL-WR1502X.

We have not received any information regarding plans to add a USB Tethering Mode to the Archer BE550. If you need this feature, you can just consider the models I mentioned. Specifically, the TL-WR3602BE is a WiFi 7 router.

Thank you for posting on the TP-Link community. We appreciate all your feedback and feature requests here. Feel free to let us know of any other feature requests you may have; we’d be happy to send them up for you.

  @Joseph-TP

An alternative solution to the tethering limitation is to use a usb-c to ethernet adapter. I use a wavlink 2.5 GBe device. This solution  however requires, that I buy another thingye to make my network setup complete. I still think that providing usb-tethering on a product in this tier would be a requirement of a networking device in 2024/2025 era. The Asus I referred to in the beginning of this post is/was (it's old) a significantly cheaper product.

Hello, I've been searching for this as I'm considering getting the BE550 to replace old Asus router I'm currently using spare 5g phone connected via usb to Asus to gain internet access, it's a shame as the spec and price seems reasonable for BE550 , I'll look into usb c - ethernet adapter

Thanks

My usb-c to ethernet adapter seems to be working flawlessly. However you are introducing a potential security risk in your networking pipeline. So be sure to verify that the item you add is indeed a simple network-adapter and not a full fletched soc in disguise. I have had no issues with mine.

I probably hold off for the time being, Asus ax88u still working great , I'll be getting dedicated home broadband soon , the 5G was temporary but it's great feature to have as I might need it in the future hope tp link could add this in firmware update because the all round spec and price looks good
