Trying to Reset my AC1750 - Password Error
Hello,
I'm trying to reuse my AC1750/RE450 for another network. I forgot the old device password I used to set the device up, so I did a hardware reset of the device. When I tried to set it up it asked me to enter a password. I did and I keep getting an error telling me about the use of long or special characters. When I click on "Use TP-Link Password" it populates the password entry with an old password, that wont work either. Essentially I can't enter a new password to progress setting the device up again. I've done several more hardware resets (reset button on side of device) but get the same error message.
Regards,
Martin.

Ok. I see you are using the Tether app.
You are not the first person to report password-related issues with the Tether app.
I recommend you instead open a web browser on your phone and browse to the address http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 to set the login password via the RE450's native web interface.
After that you can either continue to do the setup via the web interface or try again whether the Tether app will now let you log into the RE450 with the password you've just set.

Hi,
When you say "enter a password" do you mean you actually typed some letters and/or numbers on the keyboard or do you mean you let your device auto-generate an ultra secure password for you? In case you are doing the latter, then try the former instead. If you are already typing a password by yourself, then make sure caps lock is not on and also try a password what only consists of English letters and numbers.
In case it still won't work for you, then please post a screenshot of the screen that shows the error message.

I tried both ways. Like I wrote, I was trying to use this to boost a different network but I was having problems. I couldn't remember the old password so I reset the device by the button on the side. Now it gives me this message no matter how many times I reset and retry. See image attached.
Thanks,
Martin.

Hello @Nerva20 ,
This is most likely because the App cached your old password. It's generally recommended that you clear the cache, log in to Extender on a different device, or access Extender via the web.
