Model: Archer C20   TL-WR840N   Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Feature Request

Hello TP-Link Team,

I would like to submit a feature request for TP-Link Routers (Archer/Deco series) targeted at ISPs and Home Users.

The Problem:
When the internet connection drops, customers cannot distinguish between a physical failure (cable cut), an authentication error, or an ISP administrative block (due to late payment). This leads to unnecessary support tickets.

The Suggestion:
Implement a "Smart Visual Diagnosis" on the router's Status LED via firmware update. The router should interpret the WAN disconnect reason and display specific LED behaviors:

1. Static Red: Physical/Link Down (No Cable).
2. Blinking Red (Slow): PPPoE/DHCP Authentication Failure.
3. Blinking Red/Orange (Fast/Specific Pattern): ISP Administrative Block.
   - Technical Implementation: The router detects the "Block" status sent by the ISP via TR-069/CWMP parameters or specific RADIUS reject attributes.

Value:
This feature would allow customers to self-diagnose "Payment Blocks" just by looking at the router, drastically reducing support costs for ISPs using TP-Link equipment.

Best regards.

Target Models & Market Impact: It is crucial that this feature is implemented primarily on entry-level and high-volume models (such as TL-WR840N, Archer C20, Archer C21, and Archer C54). Since these devices represent the vast majority of ISP deployments globally, they generate the highest volume of support tickets. Transforming these cost-effective routers into "self-diagnosing tools" would massively reduce OPEX (Operational Expenditure) for ISPs, making TP-Link the undisputed choice for mass-market deployments.

Hello @11941939000177 ,

Thanks for contacting our community. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

As far as I know, the router's Internet light currently typically has two states: orange/red indicates a network offline, and green/white indicates a network online.

Troubleshooting network offline can also be done through the router's Ethernet status page.

However, I believe that two intuitive colors are better for quickly determining the device's status and avoiding the following:

  • Due to the complexity and variety of causes of outages (such as signal interference, poor line quality, ISP failure, etc.), a single indicator light cannot cover all scenarios.
  • Some users may have limited understanding of the "color-fault" mapping. Designing multiple colors based on different causes might increase the difficulty for users to understand (e.g., distinguishing between a slow red flash and alternating red and orange flashes).

Of course, I believe the feature you mentioned is meaningful for some users. We'd like more detailed suggestions from you and other users.
