Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.9.1

Hi all,

I’m having a persistent and frustrating issue with my Deco M5 mesh.

Setup:

  • 4× Deco M5 in AP mode

  • Ethernet backhaul to a TP-Link MR600

  • Separate SSID on the MR600 works perfectly

Problem:

Some clients randomly lose internet access while still showing excellent Wi-Fi signal.

Restarting the device, Decos, or router does not fix it. Connectivity returns later with no clear trigger.

Deco settings:

  • Smart DHCP: disabled

  • Fast Roaming: disabled

  • Beamforming: disabled

  • WPA2

  • 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz enabled

Has anyone seen this or identified a root cause (band steering, ARP/DHCP issues, firmware bugs)?

Thanks,

Matt

  @ScoobyMooch

Hi, welcome to the community.

May I know how long you have had the Deco M5?

When the mobile devices failed to access the internet on Deco WiFi, if you switch to the SSID of the MR600, can the devices restore the internet access?

Can I have the model numbers of the mobile devices that randomly dropped out?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Hi @David-TP,

Thanks very much!

May I know how long you have had the Deco M5?

I think about 2 years.

When the mobile devices failed to access the internet on Deco WiFi, if you switch to the SSID of the MR600, can the devices restore the internet access?

Yes.

Can I have the model numbers of the mobile devices that randomly dropped out?

There have been several, not only mobiles, laptops too. Two that I can easily list are my own:

  • iPhone SE (MMXJ3B/A)
  • Macbook Pro (13" M1 2020)

It's definitely not an Apple specific problem. It's happened with a Chromebook and a Windows laptop too.

Hope that's helpful!

Best,

Matt
