Model: Tapo C501GW   Tapo H500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Does TP-Link have any plans to enable the Tapo C501GW camera compatibility into the H500 hub (or even H200) ?

Its currently listed as not compatible, but I would have thought newer models should work. Or is the compatibility still coming?

This model is a 4G LTE outdoor camera, which is typically installed in remote locations where conventional router‑based networks are unavailable, and where a hub is usually not deployed.

Could you share your setup scenario? What led you to choose this model, and why do you wish to bind it to a hub?

Hi  @Wayne-TP

I already have a number of Tapo devices, including sensors, smart plugs and lights.  I like the ecosystem and the ability to see them all in the Tapo app.

I have been using another brand of cameras before and use PoE to connect them to the main switch. This is because it is hard to get reliable wifi coverage to where I want the cameras. The PoE works well, but I wanted to have Tapo model cameras so I can have them in the same app along side all my other Tapo devices.

I now have 3 of the C501GW cameras in use for several reasons:

- It is the only Tapo camera that supports PoE

- it is well featured and can intergrated into the Tapo functions and automations etc

- It has the added benefit of 4G backup, which I am using. I have SIMs installed and there is power backup to the PoE - so if there is an internet outage, or power outage, the cameras will remain online which is great for security.

I was hoping the Tapo hubs could support this camera model so I can enable 24/7 recording to a central location and make use of the new AI features in the H500.  Using the SD cards for recording is sufficient, but they are not as reliable (and they can often fail with 24/7 recoding) and can be more easiliy removed from the cameras.

i tihnk your use case for remote locations is good, but I think my use case may be just as common. It would be great if TP-Link would consider enabling Hub support as it would make it a very good product.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I’ll move your post to the Feature Requests section so more users can see it and share their feedback. If others support your suggestion, they can vote on your post and join the discussion.

Our product team will review the feature requests regularly, hot topics with detailed background information (e.g., use scenarios, reasons why you want or don't want a particular feature, etc) will be prioritized for evaluation.

  @Wayne-TP

Thanks for taking a look at this.  Hopefully this can be implemented as a standard feature for all Tapo camera models . It seems strange that not all Tapo models are supported by default.
