Very slow smb file transfer when using 6ghz band
Hi
My AXE75 is configured as an Access point, connected to the ISP box. One computer is connected in wifi6 (using realtek 8922ae), the other is on the 6ghz band (using intel ax210). Both has a fast access to the internet (speedtest = 800mbps). But when trying to copy files through local network between the two computer I'm having 1.5 to 3MB/s only ...
When both computer are connected in wifi6, file copy is about 60MB/s. So, it seems there is something wrong with SMB on the 6ghz band. Any clue ?
Copying a file from a Galaxy S25 to the computer connected on 6ghz is very slow (300KB/s !!). Copying to the computer connected on wifi6 is better but slower than the ISP wifi6 box... It's seems like SMB is not well implemented on this routeur.
Thanks in advance

Hi @woozle
Thanks for participating to this attempt to understand what's going on.
Before updating to 1.5.1 you had no issues with AXE75 ?
I'm quite sure I also saw a normal speed sometimes.
I'm waiting for the beta fw to see if it helps.

Yes, up to firmware version 1.3.2 everything worked well. Back then I used the AXE75 as my main router for my home and I would have definitely noticed such low speeds on the 6 GHz band.

New test and results (still with fw v1.5.1):
I have now :
- Router 1 = ISP box, lan 192.168.0.0, WIFI6 ON
- Router 2 = AXE75, lan 192.168.1.0 with only wifi 2.4Ghz OFF : 6Ghz and 5Ghz with different SSID than Router 1
PC1 connected to Router 2 on 6GHz band
PC2 connected to Router 2 on 5ghz band
Galaxy S25 connected to Router 2 on 5ghz band
I can't stay in this configuration because I can't make a static route on Router 1 and I loose bi-band wifi6 on AXE75, but
- Speedtest is good on the 3 connected devices
- Smb file transfer is acceptable between the 3 devices
Only a question of 2.4Ghz disabled on AXE75 ? Or it's working ok right now but not in 2 hours ?
Hope this can help to debug the AXE75...

Hi@Astrakan7 ,
Regarding the two overviews you mentioned:
- Speedtest is good on the 3 connected devices.
Do you have specific Speedtest results? Does this mean that the speed returns to normal for each client regardless of whether they are connected to 5GHz or 6GHz?
- SMB file transfer is acceptable between the 3 devices.
Does this mean that the SMB file transfer speed also returns to full speed? Did you measure the specific speeds?

Hello @woozle ,
Thanks for your testing.
If you need, you can also try the beta firmware; I will send it to you.

New test, still with official 1.5.1 fw:
I set back 2.4Ghz ENABLED : Speedtest and SMB continue working well, inluding on 6GHz band
I then disabled 2.4Ghz again (doing that the 1st time gave me a working 6GHz and SMB) : SMB and speedtest very slow (50mpbs on 5ghz and 6ghz).
CONCLUSION : "playing" with wifi settings turn the AXE75 unreliable !
EDIT : after a while, it works again

YES, full ISP bandwidth, 800/400 mbps

ABOUT 50MB/s with Desktop PC connected on 6ghz at a distance of 3.5m from router and a laptop connected on 5ghz at a distance of 5m (with a full wood door closed) from router.

I'm now running your beta fw.
I was able to set channel 112 for 5ghz, but it was in 80mhz width. Then I set it to 160mhz (like I can do on my ISP router) :
- I lost 5ghz band
- reboot
- I saw the 5ghz in 160Mhz band on Wifi Scanner app (from Lizards system brand) on PC. But I was unable to connect to it
- Then 5ghz vanished. Not visible in wifi scanner nor by windows nor by Android.
- After about 15mn it reappeared (with 160mhz width !!) and I was able to connect to it.
Modifying wifi settings makes 5ghz very very slow to estabilize...
Other ressults:
- With v1.5.1 and beta firmware I get 100MB/S when trasnfering files between PC1 (6GHz) and PC2 (ethernet).
- With beta fw :
- speedtest is perfect on PC and android using 5ghz and 6ghz
- SMB transfer between PCs is ok but 30% slower in one way than an other
- SMB transfer between Android (connected to 5ghz with strong signal) and PC (5ghz and 6ghz) is slow and even more in one way (3MB/s). When using my ISP router I get about 23-25MB/s
- SMB transfer between Android (6Ghz) and PC (6ghz) gives 8M/s in one way and 3MB/s in the other
-Speedtest with Android connected on 6ghz gives full ISP speed (800mbps)
So there is a problem o packet management in some place of the fw...
