I'd like to pin a device by MAC address to one band, or exclude it by band, as I have one troublesome device that would be better on 2.4ghz but keeps jumping to 5ghz where it is less reliable. Smart Connect doesn't seem to work well for this device.

Based on your requirements, you want to configure fixed devices to connect to a fixed Wi-Fi band, preventing them from automatically switching to different bands due to interference. We've already piloted a similar feature, Roaming Bindings, on the BE550-v2. Please see here.
However, whether to add this feature to other models and whether it's suitable for such a feature requires testing, verification, and development time.
