Hi TP-Link Support,

For some time now, I’ve been experiencing issues with the parental controls (again).

I have two child profiles in my setup, and in these profiles I’ve configured specific times when the internet should be active. The times are set depending on the day of the week and when the kids need to get up the next day.

So, in short, the profiles are adjusted based on whether it’s a weekday or a weekend.

Friday is technically a weekday, but since the kids are off the next day, I’ve chosen to define Friday as a weekend day, and Sunday as a weekday, since they’re not off on Monday.

I’ve then set time intervals for weekdays and weekends:

  • On weekdays, the internet should be enabled at 18:00 and disabled at 23:00.
  • On weekends, it should be enabled at 18:00 and disabled at 02:00.
  •

However, after a recent update, a completely different variable suddenly became the default — namely “online time,” which must be set to 0.5, 1, 2 hours, or unlimited.

No matter what I do, I can’t get my devices to follow the schedule I’ve configured. They always use the online‑time setting instead.

I’ve tried deleting my profiles and recreating them, but the same issue remains.

How can I restore my own time schedules? I find the online‑time feature completely useless, as it doesn’t help me at all.

If I am understanding correctly, you are trying to set specific blocks of time each day, based on the time rather than the quantity of hours you want to allow access.  If this is correct and these access hours are sequential, then perhaps the Bedtime feature can be used to accomplish this block of no access time.

The offline time, as currently understand this advanced parental control feature is based on the quantity of hours access is allowed on a given day, not the block of hours.  I am still investigating to see if that understanding is correct, but if it is then it could still be used in conjunction with bedtime.

For example, you could send bedtime at 8 PM through 8 AM the next day.  That would give you a 12-hour window where service is active. You could keep that 12 hours open or further restrict by adding a quantity of hours the child can be active online within this 12-hour window.

Re:Parental control - Cannot disable unwanted feature
Sunday
Hello Carl, The only feature I actually want is to be able to set a static time where the internet should be available. I want internet to be available in the timeline 1800-2200 on days where the kids have school the day after. And on days they are free, the timeline should be set to 1800-0100. So they can have some more time with friends if the want. This was possible before the update, and was one of the main reason I bought the TP-link solution to start with. If this now, is available in the "advanced parental control", that is covered by me paying a monthly fee for something I think is the most standard feature in the whole parental control genre, I can guatantee that I will close down my TP-link deco solution in favor for Unify. You had a great product with some minor flaws, that you actually ruined completely by an update. So now it will cost money to be able to control a timeslot?? That is really bad I say... But thank you for your answer. / Martin Aspegren
