Hi,

I want to clarify my network setup because I think it may be causing confusion.

My topology is:

ONT (optical internet)

Switch

├── Ethernet cable → Deco BE65 (Room 1)
├── Ethernet cable → Deco BE65 (Room 2)
└── Ethernet cable → Deco BE65 (Room 3)

Each Deco unit is connected to the switch using its own separate Ethernet cable. They are not connected to each other directly, and there is no daisy-chaining between Deco units.

However, all Deco units still connect via WiFi instead of using Ethernet backhaul.

I cannot place a main Deco between the ONT and the switch because I do not have a return cable.

My questions:

  1. Is Ethernet backhaul possible when all Deco units are connected separately to a switch like this?

  2. Does Deco require one unit to be physically placed before the switch to function correctly?

  3. Is there any way to force wired backhaul in this setup?

Hi, welcome to the community.

"I cannot place a main Deco between the ONT and the switch because I do not have a return cable."

- Are you trying to say there is no Ethernet/RJ45 interface on the ONT?

-May I know your ISP?

-How about the model number of the network switch?

In the default "Wireless Router" mode, only one Deco BE65 could be directly connected to the front ISP modem/router. If you need to connect all three to the same switch, Deco needs to be in "Access Point" mode, such as the following network topology here:

When Deco is in AP mode, there isn't a DHCP/NAT router between the ONT and the switch.

Usually, when you subscribe to the fiber service, the ISP will also provide a fiber router in the subscription package. Did you have a fiber router from the ISP?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
