Add LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) support for better network visibility

Dear TP-Link Team,

I would like to request the addition of LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) support in TP-Link home routers, especially when operating in Access Point (AP) mode, and optionally in standard router mode as well.

Use Case

In modern home and lab networks, many users integrate TP-Link routers with advanced upstream devices such as enterprise-grade routers or switches (e.g., MikroTik, Ubiquiti). These devices rely on LLDP to:

  • Identify connected devices
  • Map network topology
  • Monitor port-level connections
  • Improve troubleshooting and diagnostics

Current Limitation

When a TP-Link router is used in AP mode, it acts as a bridge/switch/AP, but does not advertise any LLDP information. This makes it difficult for upstream devices to:

  • Detect what device is connected
  • Understand which ports are active or how devices are chained
  • Accurately visualize the network layout

Similarly, in router mode, when a managed switch is connected downstream, LLDP support would help identify the router and its interfaces.

Requested Enhancement

Please consider implementing:

  • LLDP support in AP mode (high priority)
  • LLDP support in router mode (optional but beneficial)
  • Ability to:
    • Enable/disable LLDP
    • Customize system name/description (optional)
    • Advertise port/interface information

Benefits

  • Better integration with advanced networking equipment (MikroTik, Ubiquiti, etc.)
  • Improved network visibility and topology mapping
  • Easier troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Enhanced experience for power users and prosumers

Why This Matters

As more users build hybrid networks combining consumer and enterprise gear, features like LLDP are becoming increasingly important even in home environments. Adding this capability would significantly enhance TP-Link’s appeal among advanced users.

Thank you for considering this request.

Best regards,
