Model: Archer AX72 Pro
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Dear TP-Link Support Team, @David-TP    @Solla-topee

I am planning a home network setup and need your clarification before purchasing additional devices.

My Requirement

  • Primary router: Archer NX200 (V1) – used only as:
    • 5G SIM / WAN internet source
    • Main controller (DHCP, future VPN, routing)
  • Extension requirement:
    • Connect secondary router via EasyMesh (wireless only, no LAN backhaul possible)
    • Secondary device should act as mesh node
    • Provide multiple LAN outputs to connect:
      • NAS devices
      • Desktop / Laptop
    • Expect high-speed data transfer within LAN (NAS ↔ devices)

Devices under consideration

  • Archer AX72 Pro (WiFi 6)
  • Archer BE400 (WiFi 7)

Clarifications required

  1. EasyMesh Compatibility
    • Does NX200 (V1) support seamless EasyMesh pairing with AX72 Pro?
    • Does BE400 fully support EasyMesh with NX200 (mixed WiFi 6 + WiFi 7)?
  2. LAN Output Usage (Important)
    • When AX72 Pro / BE400 is connected as EasyMesh node (wireless backhaul):
      • Can LAN ports on the node be used reliably for NAS and desktop connections?
      • Will LAN devices connected to the node be part of the same network (NX200 DHCP)?
  3. Seamless Roaming
    • Will NX200 + AX72 Pro provide true seamless roaming (single SSID, smooth handoff)?
  4. VPN Client / Server
    • If NX200 gets VPN client support in future firmware:
      • Will VPN apply to entire EasyMesh network including devices connected via AX72 Pro LAN?
    • Is VPN client/server supported when device is operating as EasyMesh node?
  5. Performance Consideration
    • For wireless backhaul + LAN usage (NAS traffic):
      • Which model is recommended: AX72 Pro or BE400?

Kindly suggest the best recommended TP-Link model and architecture for:

  • EasyMesh (wireless)
  • LAN output for NAS (high throughput)
  • Seamless roaming
  • Future VPN support

Looking forward to your guidance.

Thanks

Hello@Satheskumar ,

Welcome to our community.

First of all, when you use an EasyMesh-Compatible router with EasyMesh-Compatible devices (routers/extenders/access points), they can build an EasyMesh network that provides seamless roaming with a single SSID and smooth handoff between devices.

This also answers your questions:

"Will LAN devices connected to the node be part of the same network (NX200 DHCP)?" — Yes.

"Will NX200 + AX72 Pro provide true seamless roaming (single SSID, smooth handoff)?"— Yes.

Regarding TP-Link EasyMesh Devices for Home, both the BE400 and the AX72 Pro are on the list. Therefore, theoretically, both routers can form an EasyMesh network with the NX200.

When you connect a device via Ethernet cable to any router in an EasyMesh network (whether it's the main router or a satellite device), that device becomes part of your local network. This answers your question: "Can LAN ports on the node be used reliably for NAS and desktop connections?" — Yes.

To maximize NAS transfer speeds, the BE400 is the better choice due to its dedicated 2.5Gbps LAN port and superior wireless capabilities.
You can connect your NAS to the satellite router's LAN port, and it will be accessible throughout your network. For best performance, consider using Ethernet backhaul between the NX200 and your satellite router if possible.

Generally speaking, in most mesh network configurations, VPN features configured on the main router typically apply to all devices on the network, including those connected to satellite devices, since they're all part of the same unified network. But the specific implementation can vary depending on the VPN type (VPN server vs. VPN client) and how the EasyMesh network handles routing.

Re:Clarification on EasyMesh + LAN Output (NAS) + VPN Support – NX200 with AX72 Pro / BE400

Dear TP-Link Support Team   @Joseph-TP

Thank you for your previous response.

I need a few specific confirmations to finalize my setup,

1. BE400 + NX200 (V1) – Real Compatibility

  • Can you confirm tested and stable EasyMesh pairing between NX200 (V1) and BE400 (not theoretical)?
  • Does this combination support stable seamless roaming (802.11k/v/r) without issues?
  • Are there any firmware limitations or known issues with this mix (WiFi 6 + WiFi 7)?

2. VPN Behavior in EasyMesh (Critical)

  • If VPN client is enabled on NX200:
    • Will VPN apply to all devices, including those connected via AX72 Pro / BE400 LAN when used as EasyMesh nodes? (Yes/No)
  • When AX72 Pro or BE400 is used as EasyMesh node:
    • Is VPN client/server disabled on the node? (Yes/No)
  • Is split tunneling supported on NX200 (planned or available)?

3. Performance (Wireless Backhaul Scenario)

My setup uses wireless backhaul only (no Ethernet between routers).

  • In this case, is there any real NAS performance benefit using BE400 over AX72 Pro? (Yes/No)
  • Will BE400 be limited to WiFi 6 speeds when paired with NX200? (Yes/No)

4. Recommendation (Final)

For my use case:

  • NX200 (main, DHCP + failover)
  • Wireless EasyMesh node
  • LAN output for NAS (high throughput)

I am considering BE400 mainly for WiFi 7 future-proofing, but only if it works reliably with NX200 (EasyMesh, roaming, stability, etc). Otherwise, I will proceed with AX72 Pro.

Which model is officially recommended:

  • AX72 Pro
  • BE400

Kindly provide direct confirmations so I can proceed with purchase.
