Model: Archer BE230
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.5

Hello TP-Link Community,

I have a question about the TP-Link Archer BE230 router on firmware version 1.2.5. Specifically, regarding the blue WAN port (2.5 Gbps) in Access Point (AP) mode:

My Question:

In AP mode, does the blue WAN port automatically work as a LAN port, just like the other LAN ports?

I've set it up in AP mode (connecting the main router's cable to a LAN port), but I want to know if the high-speed blue port can be used for wired devices.

Hardware version: [Please specify yours, e.g., V2.60]

Current firmware: 1.2.5

Can anyone confirm if yes or no? Any details from the official changelog, web interface screenshots, or hardware specs? TP-Link support insights would be great too!

Thanks!

Hello @vaipsmelo ,

In AP mode, the router essentially acts like a switch — all ports, including the WAN port, become part of the same network. This means the blue 2.5 Gbps port can be used to connect wired devices and will provide them with network access, just like the standard LAN ports.

A couple of things worth noting:
• Keep in mind that in AP mode, certain advanced features like QoS, Parental Controls, and DHCP are disabled, as those functions are handled by your main router.
• Also note that in AP mode, the Guest Network is not isolated from the main network, so guests on the guest network can access the main network.

@vaipsmelo I have a BE230 V2, what I did after setting it up as AP, I moved the cabel from the main router into the BE230 WAN port.

  @vaipsmelo

The WAN, (blue) port should be used as an uplink in case you use the device in AP mode.

If this was helpful click on the arrow pointing upward to make it blue. If this solves your issue, click the star to make it blue as a "Recommended Solution". BTC:149wubkkfoLmNDjDbiTxx4ZU8mpcMA5CJt
