Hi,

I bought a TP-Link RE450 v4 for a hotspot in the Europe region (Greece).

I recently moved to the US and I bought a phone here. I am trying to host a mobile hotspot on this RE450. When I use a 2.4GHz hotspot from my mobile, the wifi extender can see it, connect to it, and all my devices have internet.

However, on 5GHz, the extender cannot see my mobile hotspot to connect. I prefer using the wifi extender instead of connecting my devices directly to the phone.

I think the problem is that my RE450 is locked to channel 36, while my phone's 5GHz hotspot uses channel 149. I cannot change the channel on my phone and I really need the 5GHz connection from the RE450 device.

Can you please help me with this?

Hi,

The behavior you are seeing is correct. TP-Link's Wi-Fi devices made for the EU region cannot use channels 149 and above.

There is no method known to the public that would allow the region of the RE450 V4 to be changed.

And by the way, the RE450(EU) V4 is not "locked" to channel 36. It can use all official 5 GHz channels in the range from 36 to 140.
