2017 MacBook Pro losing wifi signal with new StarHub TP-Link HB710 router
StarHub recently upgraded my home broadband with a 5GB plan, and 2 HB710 (one main router and one mesh), I have separated the 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz and 6Ghz networks, Band Steering off, MLO off, we use only the 5Ghz netwrok.
All devices in the house (iphones, iPads, laptops, desktops on wifi5 or wifi 6 cards) work fine except 2 MacBook Pro from 2017 which are constantly losing the wifi signal after 5 to 10 min. I have tried different combination of the Wifi parameters in the TP-Link app:
- default: (Channel Auto, Channel width Auto, security WPA2/WPA3)
- Channel 44 only
- security to WPA2
but the 2 macbook still disconnect constantly.
Would appreciate some help here!
Thanks
Xavier

Hi,
Regarding the reported phenomenon, please try enabling a 2.4 GHz main network or a 5 GHz guest network on the HB710, connect the MacBooks to these networks, and check if they work fine.
If the same phenomenon persists, please confirm the following information.
1. Do the two HB710 connect wirelessly?
2. Which HB710 do the two MacBooks connect to?
3. When the MacBook loses connection, does it disconnect from the HB710's Wi-Fi, or is it connected to the HB710's Wi-Fi but has no internet?
4. If the MacBook is connected to the HB710's Wi-Fi but has no internet, what's the IP address on the MacBook? Can the phone/laptop on the same network successfully ping the MacBook's IP address?
Best Regards

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I already have a separated 2.4 GHz main network and a 5 GHz guest network on the HB710, connecting the MacBooks to these networks does not resolve the issue.
To answer your questions:
1. Do the two HB710 connect wirelessly? yes they do
2. Which HB710 do the two MacBooks connect to? both indifferently; one in the living room and one closer to hte bedrooms so depending where the macbooks are, they connect to one or the other
3. When the MacBook loses connection, does it disconnect from the HB710's Wi-Fi, or is it connected to the HB710's Wi-Fi but has no internet? It appears as still connected i.e. full bars on the wifi icon on the mac taskbar but no no more internet (I noticed I dont see it connected in the tplink app anymore)
4. If the MacBook is connected to the HB710's Wi-Fi but has no internet, what's the IP address on the MacBook? 192.168.0.15
Can the phone/laptop on the same network successfully ping the MacBook's IP address? no - result of the ping:
C:\Windows\System32>ping 192.168.0.15
Pinging 192.168.0.15 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.10: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.0.10: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.0.10: Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.15:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Hope this helps,
Xavier

Hi,
Do the MacBooks work fine when connecting to other Wi-Fi networks? Please ensure that your MacBook's wireless network adapter driver is up to date.

Hi,
Yes they do and never had any issue whatsoever - before I had a set of TP-Link Deco X75 on a 1Gbps plan never had any issue. This issue appeared recently when they installed the HB710.
Regarding your question about the network adapter driver, on a MacBook wireless network adapter drivers are built into the macOS system and are automatically updated whenever you install a macOS software update. You cannot update them independently like on a Windows PC. The Mac OS is up to date.
Many thanks again for your help,
Xavier
