I’m having issues with a TP-Link PGW2440 KIT (PG2400P + PGW2440 G.hn powerline kit) that had been working perfectly for a long time until suddenly failing one morning.

 

Symptoms:

• Both devices power on normally

• PLC/pair LEDs stay solid orange permanently

• No powerline link is ever established

• Wi-Fi on the PGW2440 still works

• Ethernet on the PG2400P still works

• Devices can be accessed individually via web UI

• Both devices show the same PowerLine Network Name (HomeGrid)

• But they never form a PLC carrier/link even when plugged into the same double wall socket side-by-side

 

Things I have already tried:

• Factory reset via hardware reset buttons multiple times

• Factory restore via web UI on both devices

• Manual Pair button process multiple times

• Soft Pair from the web UI

• Plugging them:

  • side-by-side in same socket

  • different sockets in same room

  • original house locations

• Leaving them powered together for several hours

• Confirmed both devices are individually functional:

  • PG2400P Ethernet works

  • PGW2440 Wi-Fi works

  • both web interfaces accessible

• Checked both use the same PLC network name (HomeGrid)

• Rebooted both many times

• Enabled compatibility mode

• Tested with router connected properly to PG2400P

• Tested directly connected to Windows PC with TPPLC utility

 

Firmware history:

Originally:

• PG2400P: 1.0.3 Build 20221213

• PGW2440: 1.0.3 Build 20230510

 

I then upgraded:

• PG2400P -> 1.1.0 Build 20250710

• PGW2440 -> 1.0.4 Build 20240830

 

During this process the PG2400P temporarily became unstable:

• blinking green continuously

• disappeared from TPPLC

• ignored reset button

• briefly appeared semi-bricked

But after long power drain/reset cycles it recovered and now boots normally again.

 

Current firmware state:

• PG2400P: back downgraded to 1.0.3

• PGW2440: currently on 1.0.4

 

Current LED state:

PG2400P:

• Ethernet LED solid green

• PLC LED solid orange

 

PGW2440:

• Wi-Fi LED solid green

• PLC LED solid orange

 

The key issue:

Even with:

• matching HomeGrid

• same socket

• resets

• pairing

• firmware changes

• factory restores

…the devices never establish a green PLC link.

 

At this point I’m trying to determine whether:

1. there is still some firmware compatibility issue between 1.0.3 and 1.0.4

2. one of the G.hn PLC modem sections has physically failed

3. there’s some hidden recovery/reset process I’m missing

 

Has anyone seen this behaviour before with the PG2400P / PGW2440 kit?
