Hi, I've been told I can run AX1500 without internet, just to allow 2 devices communicate as part of WiFi network. However, I'm not able to set it up this way...

1. Is it possible?

  If yes

2. Can somebody guide me through the process

Cheers

Yes, you can run AX1500 without Internet connection just to connect two devices as part of its LAN (wired or wireless).

You need to just configure teh Ax1500 LAN and Wireless settings and connect two devices to the router.

It depends on your devices if they would be able to communicate to each other. For example

Make sure that if the devices are Windows computers to configure their wireless network as Private network and enable file network sharing.

Hello @mr_rad ,

Here's how to get it set up:

Step 1: Connect to the router
Connect a PC to the router either via an Ethernet cable or by connecting to its default Wi-Fi network. The default Wi-Fi name looks like TP-Link_XXXX, and the default Wi-Fi password can be found on the label on the router.

Step 2: Access the router's management page
Open a browser on your PC and type http://tplinkwifi.net in the address bar. You'll be prompted to set an admin password — make sure to remember it.

Step 3: Complete the setup
Follow the on-screen setup wizard. When it asks about your internet connection type, you can skip or cancel the internet setup — the router will still function as a local network hub. Both of your devices simply need to connect to the router's Wi-Fi (or via Ethernet), and they will be able to communicate with each other on the same local network.

Step 4: Ensure local device communication works
Once both devices are connected to the router, make sure:
• Both devices are obtaining IP addresses from the router and are within the same subnet.
• Neither device is connected to a guest network (if configured), as guest network isolation may block device-to-device communication.
• On Windows devices, make sure the network profile is set to Private (not Public), as the Public profile blocks local network discovery. You can search "change Windows 10/11 public network to private" for instructions.

  @Joseph-TP

Thanks, I used my phone as hotspot for my PC to open the link, followed the procedure and both devices are connected.

Streamer with cable, iPad over WiFi both showing up as connected but when I open the remote app there's nothing showing up.

I restarted streamer and still nothing.

Both were used together in past with no problem (connected to router with internet).

I tried to upload pics of the screens but it told me that URL is missing...

Seems like I should just give and bin it...

@mr_rad

Have you check the setting following the step 4?

Step 4: Ensure local device communication works
Once both devices are connected to the router, make sure:
• Both devices are obtaining IP addresses from the router and are within the same subnet.
• Neither device is connected to a guest network (if configured), as guest network isolation may block device-to-device communication.
• On Windows devices, make sure the network profile is set to Private (not Public), as the Public profile blocks local network discovery. You can search "change Windows 10/11 public network to private" for instructions.

Here are some new troubleshooting suggestions based on your response:

✅ Ensure AX1500’s DHCP Server is ENABLED.

✅ Ensure AX1500’s AP Isolation / Client Isolation is DISABLED.

✅ Confirm all devices are on the same IP subnet (e.g., 192.168.1.x).

✅ Verify basic connectivity using a Ping tool (MOST IMPORTANT STEP!).

  • Step 1: Install a Ping App. On your iPad, download a free utility like “Network Ping Lite”“Fing”, or “iNetTools” from the App Store.
  • Step 2: Get the Target IP. Note the IP address of your wired streamer from its network settings (e.g., 192.168.1.101).
  • Step 3: Execute the Ping Test. Open the Ping app, enter the streamer’s IP address in the target field, and start the test.
  • Step 4: Interpret Results.
    • SUCCESS (Good): You see replies like Reply from 192.168.1.101: bytes=32 time=1ms. This proves the network path is working. The problem is with the app. Proceed to steps 5 & 6.
    • FAILURE (Bad): You see Request timed out or Destination unreachable. This confirms a fundamental network misconfiguration. Go back and re-check steps 1-3.

✅ Check the Remote App’s Local Network Permissions and Settings.

  • On your iPad, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Ensure the remote app has permission enabled. Also, look within the app’s own settings for a “Local Discovery” or “LAN-only” mode.

✅ Try direct connection via the device’s IP address (using a browser or dedicated app).

  • In your iPad’s web browser, type http://[Streamer's-IP-Address] (e.g., http://192.168.1.101) to see if you can access its built-in web interface for control.
