Hello,

I have been using several WPA8631 receivers as a powerline transmission around my house and in my garden.

I have combined all networks into one SSID for the purpose of simplicity and also due to having WiFi IP cameras need to be on same network.

However it seems that WPA8631 lacks smart roaming (band steering) and I tend to get sticky device - weakest signal from the other room, when I move around the house.

Am I missing something in settings, or is there any way how to solve this (except putting Deco into the equation - like connect Deco via cable from WPA8631 and use Deco as main WiFi)?

Thanks,

J.

Hello @Zabi66 ,

Welcome to our community.

From a general networking perspective, smart roaming (802.11r/k/v) and band steering are features typically found in mesh Wi-Fi systems, and are generally not available on standard powerline adapters with Wi-Fi, including most extender-type devices. These adapters broadcast the same SSID, but each one operates as an independent access point without coordinated roaming logic — which is exactly what causes the sticky client issue you're describing.

May I know your network topology? For example: ISP modem—router—TL-WPA8631P )))((( client devices

Currently, TL-WPA8631P KIT V4 supports EasyMesh. You can check the hardware version of your powerline adapters, and check if your router supports EasyMesh. Perhaps you could try setting up an EasyMesh network to improve the current "sticky client" issue.
