Model: RE900XD   VX800v
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20250916 rel.67159

Hi,

I'm working with TP-Link Components for over 1 Year now.

My used TP-Link-Components:

- TP-Link VX800x

- RE900XD (2x)

Network-Setup:

DHCP and DNS running on a separate LAN-Component (won't name it).

VX800x runs without DHCP (static IP, edited in Webinterface persistent) and is connected to my DNS-Server. For router only, the setup works really great.

RE900XD is connected by LAN to the router, switch between them (a 2.5GBit-unmanaged 5 Port Switch from TP-Link). IP is set by DHCP, it's make no difference if I enter the IP-Settings directly or by DHCP, same Result at the end, so I made my Life a bit easier.

WLAN is splitted on two SSIDs, one for 2.4GHz and one for 5GHz.

Easy Mesh is automatically configured, I can't use WPS-Procedure, while the RE900XD is connected by LAN-Cable.

At the Moment, I only use the Router and one Extender on my Network.

We have 2 Floors so I wanted to have greatest WLAN possible for 2nd Floor because the Idea was to move my personal office up to this floor.

For that case I installed the RE900XD on the 2nd Floor connected by LAN-Cable (10m CAT7), plugin in to the 2.5Gbit-Port (the whole LAN ist a 2.5Gbit-LAN).

RE900XD connects to my DHCP and gets an reserved IP. VX800x finds it an connects it to the Easy Mesh without performing the WPS-Procedure most instantly (not needed on LAN-Connection after hours of searching). A look on the Webinterface shows all available WLANs from the router and Clients can connect to it. Everything looks great for that moment.

But after a Time X I can't really measure, the RE900XD starts blinking on WLAN-LED and the LEDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz are off. In the this mode, i can still connect to the Webinterface but the RE900XD shows a Disconnection from Internet and I get this Info from all WLAN-Clients which are connected to it too. Only the Router is still fully connected to the Web.

I need to restart or Poweroff/Poweron the RE900XD so it reconnects to the router and it's fine for the a time X. This continues daily.

When I switch the Setup and connect the RE900XD by WLAN using WPS, it looks like everything works great and the RangeExtender works like it should. But in this Setup it doesn't get the full power I want and need because over WLAN the Connection ist not 100% stable and looses Performance.

My Goal is, that I can get the maximum Performance the RE900XD can deliver so I can use my Network-Components the most efficient way. But I can't do at the moment.

Where is my mistake? What can I do to fix it?

PS: the 2nd RE900XD is not active at the moment, because I want to reconfigure them performing as Access-Points, one on each Floor, when we have to switch from DSL to FibreWire-Connection (the router isn't needed anymore than because the provider uses an own modem to connect).

Hello @Hawk18x ,

Welcome to our community.

May I know if your network topology diagram is as follows:

      ┌──DHCP Server

VX800x──2.5G TP-Link switch──RE900XD, EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul

Have you tried removing the switch to make a comparison? Alternatively, have you tried connecting another RE900XD directly to the VX800v's LAN port for comparison?

Also, regarding your mention of "reconfiguring them to operate as Access Points", does this mean you will no longer use the VX800v, and the final topology will be DHCP Server — 2 × RE900XD (Access Point mode)?

  @Joseph-TP

Hi,

thanks for your Response.

The diagram is correct. My DHCP-Server is separated and the only DHCP in my Network, no VLAN or anything else. Only one IP-Range with 255.255.255.0-Subnet.

No, I didn't try to remove the Switch and conncect it directly because the Switch is working well for about 12 months now without restarting it.

I can try to connect a 2nd RE900XD directly to the Switch of the router itself, but I don't know if I can reproduce the issue with the 2nd.

My question is: Which way to connect XV800v and RE900XD is the best? Wired or wireless?

In meanwhile I found some interesting Posts in the protocol of the router where the mac-Address of the 2.4HGz-WLAN-Interface is searching an IP-Address over DHCP but can't find one. About that, I turned of my separated DHCP and reactivated DHCP on the Router, but the protocol still grows with this message:

Send DISCOVER with request ip 0.0.0.0 and unicast flag 0 (from <placeholder for MAC-ADDRESS> to FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF)

This message repeats 5 times each 5 minutes and end with this message:

Recv no OFFER, DHCP Service unavailable

I don't know if this Info could help. I switched my DHCP because i hoped that the router itself would solve this Issue, without success.

___________

I will reset it back to my DHCP to solve the main problem I have with the functionality the router not give me.

For understanding, I only use an own DHCP because the Router can't deploy an self defined primary DNS-Server to all of my Clients on IPv6, on both methods (RADVD or DHCPv6). For DHCPv4 there is a field for 2 self defining DNS-Servers.

___________

My Plan is to completely reconfigure my Network when DSL isn't usable anymore. I know that the XV800v can connect by fibrewire over SFP-Module but the Privider for Fibrewire has set an own Modem with a LAN-Port, so we can connect without a Router to it. I want to setup OPNSense or simular Software in the Future getting a better Firewall an LAN-Management for my Homelab (3 physical Servers at the moment with a lot of virtualized Hosts). These 2 RE900XD are planned to represent the Access-Points for all my WLAN-Clients on both floors. But currently I want to continue using the Router for my WAN-Connection.
