W9860N V7 ppp password and special characters

Hello everyone!
My PPP password contains special characters such as "@ < !" but the problem seems to be that the w9860N is not special char friendly.
At the end of the Quick setting I can clearly see that the modem ignores all chars that are situated after the "<" sign in the PPP password.
As a result, the stored password is wrong and authentification always fails.
Is there a fix for this ?
or should I take the risk to put a third party firmware on the router (even if it is not clealy supported) ?
