Hi!

Today I installed my new dsl router and everything (ethernet switch, vdsl, fax, phone) works fine.

But:
Can it be that the power consumption of the Archer VR200v (hw version: v1) is ~30% higher than my provider's default box?
I expected the oposite...
The VR200v's average consumption seems to be about 9.5W.

Can I turn off something via the http config interface?
I already tried to disable WLAN that way and that blue light is off, I think... :)

Or can I possibly pull some WLAN module out of its connector, when I use a screw driver?

Max power consumption with power adapter is about 24W. If it has more functions, more powerful modules, it will consume more power.

hm...
but why does it use more power providing the same functionality as my provider's default box?
is the hardware somehow older and therefore more hungry?
is there a way to change the hardware somehow (cutting through cables/traces or pulling out plugs)?

You've disabled WLAN, that will cut the power consumption a bit. I don't know other way to do it. You can do some tests.

if a computer, that is connected to the ethernet switch, is powered down,
the VR200v sucks 500mW less power...
it was the same with the O2 default box...
but that is not an option, because: i often need 2 ports of that switch...

does TP Link provide any schematics, so that we could see, where the power is wasted?

does TP Link use old (=less green) chips?

does TP Link reduce the CPU clock frequency, if appropriate?

should i just send it back to the vendor, because: it is hopeless?

seems like they do not turn off the unused modules (namely DECT and WLAN in my case)...
if i do not initialize those modules the power consumption is slightly lower than the consumption of the O2 homebox... *giggle*
