Model: Archer C1200
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.0.2 Build 20180118 rel.38979 (EU)

Hi!

I had a 1Tb HDD for some time now, but i found out how useful this cloud storage really is.

I bought a 4Tb HDD, then switched it with the old, 1Tb drive.

But when i go to the router settings, it says, "Found 0 disks"....

Maybe 4Tb is too much for the router to handle?

Thanks!

@QuinnHUN

Our wireless dual-band products support more than 4TB HDD at present. We will do some troubleshooting first.

What is the model number of your 4TB HDD?

With the HDD connected to the computer directly, does it work? Can it be recognized?

What is the model number of the HDD? And is external power supply needed?

Besides,  NTFS and FAT32 format types are recommended. You can try to format the HDD and give it a go.

Hi!

Yeah the info i gave was... minimalistic, to say the least...

So, my HDD is a Western Digital Red 3.5 4TB 5400rpm 64MB SATA3 WD40EFRX

It is connected via an external HDD case, with separate power supply.

When i connected it to my PC, it was recognized as 3.6 tb storage. I formated it in NTFS.

I tried to create a folder called "sda1", and put some files there, but still it says no disk found.

I checked, and when i connect the HDD to the router, the USB led on the router flashes a few times, then lights up continuously.

I appriciate the help!

@QuinnHUN

Thanks for your reply; cause the HDD connects to the router via an external HDD case, to narrow down the issue, it is suggested to connect a HDD to the USB port of the C1200 directly and test whether it can be detected.

Meanwhile, how do you connect the original 1 TB HDD to the C1200? Plug it into the USB port directly and use the external HDD case together?

Any updates, please let us know.

Thanks for helping me out.

So i got an HDD case like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51rda01PfZL._SL1000_.jpg

It has its own power supply, and it connects to the router via a male-to-male USB Type A.

Everything is the same as with the 1tb drive, except it does not recognize the 4tb drive now...

@QuinnHUN I hFve the same issue you have (same HDD brand, same basic specs, 3TB instead of 4TB).

Did you ever find a solution to this USB shared drive connundrum?

In my case a 500gb drive (tiny, I know!  (Funny to think on my first IBM AT 286 (yes, I am older than dirt) I paid $400 extra to upgrade from a 10MB(!) drive to a 20MB, "So I would NEVER run out of storage!")) works perfectly fine in the same drive caddy when connected to the C1200.

But, when I insert the 3TB drive in that same caddy no drive is found.

Using the same drive caddy and either the 500gb or 3TB drive connected via USB to a PC or laptop, both drives work just fine (so I know the caddy is working fine and both drives are formatted correctly, etc.)

I hate the thought of wasting time and money to replace an otherwise perfectly good working wireless router just to make a larger drive work properly (assuming newer models from TP-Link work properly with a 3TB or larger HDD).

Thanks,

Duane

@QuinnHUN

it seem to be a problem with all the TP-link routers supporting 4tb hhd. i have a AX50 that works with 1tb but not 4tb.

@QuinnHUN

@Kevin_Z

I have an external drive (2TB WD7200 Blue) that has just about filled up.  So I purchased a 4TB WD7200 Blue to replace it.  In my powered external USB case, both drives are functioning perfectly in the same external drive case by both USB 3.0 and 2.0 (not that I would use USB 2 for copying, but in order to troubleshoot later, I confirmed this) plugged into my Windows 10PC, yet the 2TB drive worked perfectly, the 4TB would not even scan with the Archer C1200 router.  In spite of what the rep indicated, I suspect the firmware does NOT recognize GPT format discs, exceeding 2.2TB in size.

@Jks

Is the model number of the TP-Link router Archer C1200? Is it V2 or V3? You may find this on the router bottom sticker. Is it working as a normal router or access point?

Please refer to this guide below, and show us how did you try to access the files in the HDD:
