I Initially built my Mesh around 2 ps of DECO M5, to see how it works.

I now find it insufficient.

My root router is located in an area (basement) where WIFI is not needed, and DECO were installed at 2ndFloor and 3rdFloor, wired to the root router and therefore in AP mode.

Here is my problem:

Since connecting all DECOs to root router in Star topography, I lost (DECO) Routing and Parental Control Capability.

I am now contemplating on adding another DECO (designated as Master DECO) beside the root router and then connect all other (slave) DECOs to it to regain Routing and Parental Control. Likewise, I want to add another DECO to 1stFloor. In total there will be 4 DECOs, running in Router Mode, all slave DECOs wired to Master DECO in Star Topography.

My questions are:

1) M5 is relatively expensive, I am thinking if M4 or E4 would be sufficient as a Router?

2) Or perhaps, if OMADA mesh would be a better solution? 4 OMADA units is cheaper than 2 more M5 DECOs.

@ragnakore

For your information, the Deco does not support some advanced features in AP mode, you can refer to https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2399/.

You can add 2 Deco nodes to boost the wifi signal and enjoy the advanced features supported in router mode, while please notice that there is only 2 ethernet ports on the Deco, to connect all the slave Decos to the master unit, we need a hub or so.

For your question, all the Decos can build up a mesh network, you can add a M4 or E4, while then the Deco M5 will be the master Deco.  You can read https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2248/

For the differences among different models of Deco, please click https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2423/

Besides, omada mesh is related to the EAP device, it is an access point; for more information, you can start a thread at https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/

May it help and have a nice day.
